GOD also pictures Christians as salt. He says, “Ye are the salt of the earth.”
Matt. 5:13
13
Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savor, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. (Matthew 5:13)
.
We are to give out the wonderful flavor of God’s Word. We put salt in our food to make it taste fine, so we are to flavor our lives so that Christ and His Word will taste good to unbelievers. “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
Col. 4:6
6
Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. (Colossians 4:6)
.
We should stand for the truth which stops the action of leaven. (Leaven always speaks of evil.)
Salt is used to preserve some foods, such as meat. Christians as salt, have been a mean of preserving the world.
Salt makes us thirsty, so we as Christians should make people thirsty to hear more about our Lord and Saviour and about God’s Word.
“Salt is good: but if the salt have lost its saltiness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.”
Mark 9:50
50
Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. (Mark 9:50)
.
Here are other pictures of the Lord Jesus Christ which we find in the Bible.
He says, “I am the door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved.”
John 10:9
9
I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. (John 10:9)
. All must enter by this door, father, mother, and children.
He also says, “I am the light of the world.”
John 8:12
12
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. (John 8:12)
. “I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on Me should not abide in darkness.”
John 12:46
46
I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. (John 12:46)
.
The Lord Jesus Christ says, “I am the bread of life.... I am the living bread which came down from heaven.”
John 6:48-51
48
I am that bread of life.
49
Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
50
This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
51
I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. (John 6:48‑51)
. We should feed our souls with this living bread.
