Full Text of Honor the Son

A very wealthy man had an only son whom he loved dearly. The son also loved and honored his father. But one day, to his father’s inconsolable grief, the boy died. The devastated father never forgot his son, and eventually the old man himself passed away.

When the lawyers came to settle the estate, no trace could be found of the old man’s will. They searched unsuccessfully for some long time, until finally the authorities ordered that the property should be sold and the estate settled according to law.

At the estate auction, one of the articles put up for sale was a portrait of the son who had died. The picture had little or no value to most of the people present, but among the bidders was an old woman who had nursed the wealthy man’s son when he was a child. She bought the picture for a very small amount, and she cherished this reminder of the little boy she had loved and cared for years before.

One day while cleaning and repairing the picture frame, the old lady discovered a document on the back of the picture which turned out to be the old man’s will. He had left all of his property to anybody who thought enough of his son to want his portrait. The old lady became rich overnight.

ANOTHER FATHER

There was another Father who loved His Son dearly. He watched his Son, a loving and obedient child, become a kind, compassionate and loving young man who fulfilled everything the Father asked Him to do. The Father also watched his Son being mistreated and hated by others, because He always did what was good and right. The Father also saw His Son willingly suffer and die on a cross of wood. But the Father knew why His Son had let cruel men nail Him to a wooden cross — it was to bear the punishment for the sins of others.

So it is that God looks upon the boy or girl, the man or woman, who loves and honors His Son. There is nothing too good, too great or too wonderful for anyone who loves and honors Jesus, the Son of God.

Honesty, hard work, good manners or helping others can never purchase God’s forgiveness for sin. But His heart overflows in loving-kindness and forgiveness to anyone who appreciates and trusts His Son’s suffering and death on the cross.

The Lord Jesus honored His Father perfectly in His life and then went on to honor Him in His death. And God bestows the highest honor on the work of His Son. He will bless anyone with forgiveness and eternal life who will put his trust in Jesus.

He is waiting to bless you. “The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into His hand. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him” (John 3:35-36).
