God is the Author of. Psa. 36:9⁹For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. (Psalm 36:9). Col. 2:13¹³And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; (Colossians 2:13).

Christ is the Author of. John 5:21, 25²¹For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. (John 5:21)
²⁵Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. (John 5:25). John 6:33, 51-53³³For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. (John 6:33)
⁵¹I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. ⁵²The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. (John 6:51‑53). John 14:6⁶Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6). 1 John 4:9⁹In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. (1 John 4:9).

The Holy Ghost is the Author of. Ezek. 37:14¹⁴And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the Lord have spoken it, and performed it, saith the Lord. (Ezekiel 37:14), with Rom. 8:9-13⁹But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. ¹⁰And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. ¹¹But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you. ¹²Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. ¹³For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. (Romans 8:9‑13).

The word of God is the instrument of. Isa. 55:3³Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. (Isaiah 55:3). 2 Cor. 3:6⁶Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life. (2 Corinthians 3:6). 1 Peter 4:6⁶For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. (1 Peter 4:6).

Is hidden with Christ. Col. 3:3³For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3).

The fear of God is. Prov. 14:27²⁷The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death. (Proverbs 14:27). Prov. 19:23²³The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. (Proverbs 19:23).

Spiritual-mindedness is. Rom. 8:6⁶For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (Romans 8:6).

IS MAINTAINED BY

Christ. John 6:57⁵⁷As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. (John 6:57). 1 Cor. 10:3, 4³And did all eat the same spiritual meat; ⁴And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. (1 Corinthians 10:3‑4). Faith. Gal. 2:20²⁰I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20).

The word of God. Deut. 8:3³And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. (Deuteronomy 8:3), with Matt. 4:4⁴But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4).

Prayer. Psa. 69:32³²The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God. (Psalm 69:32).

Has its origin in the new-birth. John 3:3-8³Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. ⁴Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? ⁵Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. ⁶That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. ⁷Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. ⁸The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (John 3:3‑8).

Has its infancy. Luke 10:21²¹In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. (Luke 10:21). 1 Cor. 3:1, 2¹And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. ²I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. (1 Corinthians 3:1‑2). 1 John 2:12¹²I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. (1 John 2:12).

Has its youth. 1 John. 2:13, 14.

Has its maturity. Eph. 4:13¹³Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: (Ephesians 4:13). 1 John. 2:13, 14.

IS DESCRIBED AS

A life unto God. Rom. 6:11¹¹Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:11). Gal. 2:19¹⁹For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God. (Galatians 2:19).

Newness of life. Rom. 6:4⁴Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4).

Living in the Spirit. Gal. 5:25²⁵If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25).

Revived by God. Psa. 85:6⁶Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee? (Psalm 85:6). Hos. 6:2²After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. (Hosea 6:2)

Evidenced by love to the brethren. 1 John 3:14¹⁴We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death. (1 John 3:14).

All saints have. Eph. 2:1, 5¹And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; (Ephesians 2:1)
⁵Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) (Ephesians 2:5). Col. 2:13¹³And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; (Colossians 2:13).

Should animate the services of saints. Rom. 12:1¹I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. (Romans 12:1). 1 Cor. 14:15¹⁵What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. (1 Corinthians 14:15).

Saints praise God for. Psa. 119:175¹⁷⁵Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me. (Psalm 119:175).

Seek to grow in. Eph. 4:15¹⁵But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: (Ephesians 4:15). 1 Pet. 2:2²As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: (1 Peter 2:2).

Pray for the increase of. Psa. 119:25²⁵DALETH. My soul cleaveth unto the dust: quicken thou me according to thy word. (Psalm 119:25) Psa. 143:11¹¹Quicken me, O Lord, for thy name's sake: for thy righteousness' sake bring my soul out of trouble. (Psalm 143:11).

The wicked alienated from. Eph. 4:18¹⁸Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: (Ephesians 4:18).

Lovers of pleasure destitute of. 1 Tim. 6:6⁶But godliness with contentment is great gain. (1 Timothy 6:6).

Hypocrites destitute of. Jude 12¹²These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; (Jude 12). Rev. 3:1¹And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. (Revelation 3:1).

Illustrated. Ezek. 37:9, 10⁹Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord God; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. ¹⁰So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army. (Ezekiel 37:9‑10). Luke 15:24²⁴For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. (Luke 15:24).
