Foretold. Isa. 42:7⁷To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. (Isaiah 42:7). Isa. 61:1¹The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; (Isaiah 61:1).

CONFERRED

By God. Col. 1:13¹³Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: (Colossians 1:13).

By Christ. Gal. 4:3-5³Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: ⁴But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, ⁵To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. (Galatians 4:3‑5). Gal. 5:1¹Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1).

By the Holy Ghost. Rom. 8:15¹⁵For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. (Romans 8:15). 2 Cor. 3:17¹⁷Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. (2 Corinthians 3:17).

Through the gospel. John 8:32³²And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:32).

Confirmed by Christ. John 8:36³⁶If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed. (John 8:36).

Proclaimed by Christ. Isa. 61:1¹The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; (Isaiah 61:1). Luke 4:18¹⁸The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, (Luke 4:18).

The service of Christ is. 1 Cor. 7:22²²For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord's freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ's servant. (1 Corinthians 7:22).

IS FREEDOM FROM

The law. Rom. 7:6⁶But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. (Romans 7:6). Rom. 8:2²For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:2).

The curse of the law. Gal. 3:13¹³Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: (Galatians 3:13).

The fear of death. Heb. 2:15¹⁵And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. (Hebrews 2:15). Sin. Rom. 6:7, 18⁷For he that is dead is freed from sin. (Romans 6:7)
¹⁸Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. (Romans 6:18).

Corruption. Rom. 8:21²¹Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. (Romans 8:21).

Bondage of man. 1 Cor. 9:19¹⁹For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. (1 Corinthians 9:19).

Jewish ordinances. Gal. 4:3³Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: (Galatians 4:3). Col. 2:20²⁰Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Colossians 2:20).

Called the glorious liberty of the children of God. Rom. 8:21²¹Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. (Romans 8:21).

Saints are called to. Gal. 5:13¹³For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. (Galatians 5:13).

SAINTS SHOULD

Praise God for. Psa. 116:16, 17¹⁶O Lord, truly I am thy servant; I am thy servant, and the son of thine handmaid: thou hast loosed my bonds. ¹⁷I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord. (Psalm 116:16‑17).

Assert. 1 Cor. 10:29²⁹Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience? (1 Corinthians 10:29).

Walk in. Psa. 119:45⁴⁵And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts. (Psalm 119:45).

Stand fast in. Gal. 2:5⁵To whom we gave place by subjection, no, not for an hour; that the truth of the gospel might continue with you. (Galatians 2:5). Gal. 5:1¹Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1).

Not abuse. Gal. 5:13¹³For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. (Galatians 5:13). 1 Peter 2:16¹⁶As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. (1 Peter 2:16).

Not offend others by. 1 Cor. 8:9⁹But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. (1 Corinthians 8:9). 1 Cor. 10:29, 32²⁹Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience? (1 Corinthians 10:29)
³²Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God: (1 Corinthians 10:32).

The gospel is the law of. James 1:25²⁵But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. (James 1:25). James 2:12¹²So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. (James 2:12).

FALSE TEACHERS

Promise, to others. 2 Peter 2:19¹⁹While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. (2 Peter 2:19).

Abuse. Jude 4⁴For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (Jude 4).

Try to destroy. Gal. 2:4⁴And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage: (Galatians 2:4).

The wicked, devoid of. John 8:34³⁴Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. (John 8:34), with Rom. 6:20²⁰For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. (Romans 6:20).

Typified. Lev. 25:10-17¹⁰And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubilee unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family. ¹¹A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed. ¹²For it is the jubilee; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field. ¹³In the year of this jubilee ye shall return every man unto his possession. ¹⁴And if thou sell ought unto thy neighbor, or buyest ought of thy neighbor's hand, ye shall not oppress one another: ¹⁵According to the number of years after the jubilee thou shalt buy of thy neighbor, and according unto the number of years of the fruits he shall sell unto thee: ¹⁶According to the multitude of years thou shalt increase the price thereof, and according to the fewness of years thou shalt diminish the price of it: for according to the number of the years of the fruits doth he sell unto thee. ¹⁷Ye shall not therefore oppress one another; but thou shalt fear thy God: for I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 25:10‑17). Gal. 4:23-26, 31²³But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. ²⁴Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. ²⁵For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. ²⁶But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. (Galatians 4:23‑26)
³¹So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free. (Galatians 4:31).
