John 14:1‑17:26• 1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe on God, believe on me also.
2In my Father’s house are many mansions: if not so, I would have told you, because I go to prepare a place for you.
3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I am coming again, and will receive you unto myself, that where I am ye also may be.
4And where I go ye know the way.
5Thomas saith to him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; [and] how know we the way?
6Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life: no one cometh unto the Father but by me.
7If ye had known me, ye would have known my Father also; and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
8Philip saith to him, Lord, show us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
9Jesus saith to him, Am I so long a time with you, and hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; [and] how sayest thou, Show us the Father?
10Believest thou not that I [am] in the Father, and the Father is in me? The words which I say to you, I do not speak from myself; but the Father that abideth in me, he doeth the works.
11Believe me that I [am] in the Father, and the Father in me; but, if not, believe me for the very works’ sake.
12Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believeth on me, the works which I do shall he do also; and greater things than these shall he do; because I go unto the Father.
13And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.
15If ye love me, keep my commandments;
16and I will request the Father, and he will give you another Paraclete, that he may be with you forever,
17the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it beholdeth him not, nor knoweth him; but ye know him, because he abideth with you, and shall be in you.
18I will not leave you orphans, I am coming unto you.
19Yet a little, and the world beholdeth me no more; but ye behold me: because I live, ye also shall live.
20In that day ye shall know that I [am] in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21He that hath my commandments and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me; but he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him and will manifest myself to him.
22Judas, not the Iscariot, saith to him, Lord, [and] how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself to us and not to the world?
23Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone love me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24He that loveth me not keepeth not my words; and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father’s that sent me.
25These things I have spoken to you, while abiding with you;
26but the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things which I said to you.
27Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you, not as the world giveth give I to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
28Ye heard that I said to you, I go away, and come unto you; if ye loved me, ye would have rejoiced that I go unto the Father, because the Father is greater than I.
29And now I have told you before it come to pass, that when it is come to pass ye may believe.
30No longer shall I talk much with you, for the prince of the world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
31But that the world may know that I love the Father, and as the Father commanded me, so I do. Arise, let us go hence.
1I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2Every branch in me not bearing fruit, he taketh it away; and every one that beareth fruit, he cleanseth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3Already ye are clean, because of the word which I have spoken to you.
4Abide in me, and I in you: as the branch cannot bear fruit from itself, unless it abide in the vine; so neither [can] ye, unless ye abide in me.
5I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, he beareth much fruit; because apart from me ye can do nothing.
6If one abide not in me, he is cast out as the branch, and is dried up: and they gather it, and cast [it] into the fire, and it burneth.
7If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask what ye will, and it shall come to pass for you.
8In this is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit, and [ye shall] become my disciples.
9As the Father loved me, I also loved you: abide in my love.
10I f ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love.
11These things have I spoken to you that my joy may be in you, and your joy may be fulfilled.
12This is my commandment, that ye love one another, as I loved you.
13Greater love no one hath than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
14Ye are my friends if ye do what [ever] I command you.
15No longer do I call you bondmen, for the bondman knoweth not what his lord doeth; but you I have called friends, because all things which I heard from my Father I made known to you.
16Not ye chose me, but I chose you and appointed you that ye should go and bear fruit, and your fruit abide; that whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name he may give you.
17These things I command you, that ye love one another.
18If the world hateth you, know that me it hath hated before you.
19If ye were of the world, the world would love its own; but because ye are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, on this account doth the world hate you.
20Call to mind the word which I told you, A bondman is not greater than his lord. If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also;
21but all these things they will do unto you on account of my name, because they know not him that sent me.
22If I had not come and spoken to them, they had not had sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin.
23He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
24If I did not among them the works which no other did, they had not had sin; but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
25But [it is] that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, they hated me without a cause.
26[But] when the Paraclete shall have come, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceedeth out from the Father, he shall testify concerning me;
27and ye too testify, because ye are with me from [the] beginning.
1These things I have spoken to you that ye should not be stumbled.
2They will put you out of the synagogue; nay, an hour is coming that everyone who hath killed you will think that he is offering service to God.
3And these things will they do to you because they knew not the Father nor me.
4But I have said these things to you, that when the hour shall have come, ye may remember them that I told you; but these things I told you not from [the] beginning, because I was with you.
5But now I go unto him that sent me, and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
6But because I have said these things to you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is profitable for you that I go away; for if I go not away, the Paraclete will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8And when come, he will convince the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9of sin, because they believe not on me;
10of righteousness, because I go unto my Father, and ye behold me no more;
11of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12I have yet many things to say to you, but ye cannot bear [them] now.
13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, shall have come, he will guide you in all the truth; for he will not speak from himself, but whatever he shall hear he will speak; and he will announce to you the things to come.
14He will glorify me, for he will receive of mine, and will announce [it] to you.
15All things that the Father hath are mine: on this account I said, that he receiveth of mine and will announce [it] to you.
16A little while and ye behold me not: and again a little while and ye shall see me [because I go away unto the Father].
17[Some] therefore of his disciples said one to another, What is this which he saith to us, A little while and ye behold me not: and again a little while and ye shall see me, and because I go away to the Father.
18They said therefore, What is this that he saith, the little while? We know not what he speaketh.
19Jesus knew [therefore ] that they wished to ask him, and said to them, Do ye inquire of this one with another, because I said, A little while, and ye behold me not; and again a little while, and ye shall see me?
20Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice; ye shall be grieved, but your grief shall be turned into joy.
21The woman, when she bringeth forth, hath grief because her hour is come; but when she shall give birth to the child, she no longer remembereth the affliction for the joy that a man was born into the world.
22And ye therefore now have grief, but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no one taketh from you.
23And in that day ye shall ask me nothing; verily, verily, I say to you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father, he will give you in my name.
24Hitherto ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
25These things have I spoken to you in proverbs: an hour cometh when I shall speak no longer to you in proverbs, but openly report to you about the Father.
26In that day ye shall ask in my name, and I say not to you that I will request the Father for you;
27for the Father himself dearly loveth you because ye have dearly loved me and have believed that I came out from God.
28I came out from the Father and am come into the world; again I leave the world and proceed unto the Father.
29His disciples say [to him], Behold, now thou talkest with openness and speakest no parable.
30Now we know that thou knowest all things and hast no need that one ask thee: herein we believe that thou didst come out from God.
31Jesus answered them, Just now do ye believe?
32Behold, an hour cometh, and is come, that ye should be scattered, each unto his own, and leave me alone; and I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
33These things have I spoken to you that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye have tribulation; but be of good courage: I have overcome the world.
1These things spake Jesus, and lifting up his eyes unto heaven said, Father, the hour is come: glorify thy Son that thy Son may glorify thee,
2according as thou gavest him authority over all flesh, that, everything which thou hast given him, he should give them life eternal.
3And this is the eternal life, that they know thee, the only true God, and him whom thou didst send, Jesus Christ.
4I glorified thee on the earth, having finished the work which thou hast given me to do;
5and now do thou, Father, glorify me along with thyself with the glory which I had along with thee before the world was.
6I manifested thy name to the men whom thou gavest me out of the world. Thine they were, and to me thou gavest them, and they have kept thy word.
7Now have they known that all things as many as thou hast given me are of thee;
8because the words which thou gavest me I have given to them, and they received [them], and knew truly that I came out from thee, and believed that thou didst send me.
9I request for them: not for the world do I request, but for those whom thou hast given me, for they are thine
10(and all my things are thine, and thy things mine), and I am glorified in them.
11And I am no longer in the world, and these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep them in thy name which thou hast given me, that they may be one even as [also] we [are].
12When I was with them, I was keeping them in thy name which thou hast given me, and I guarded [them], and not one of them perished but the son of perdition that the scripture might be fulfilled.
13And now unto thee I come, and these things I speak in the world that they may have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
14I have given them thy word; and the world hated them because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world.
15I do not ask that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them out of the evil.
16Of the world they are not, as I am not of the world.
17Sanctify them by the truth; thy word is truth.
18As thou didst send me into the world, I also sent them into the world.
19And for their sakes I sanctify myself that they also may be sanctified in truth.
20And not for these only do I request, but also for those that believe on me through their word, that they may all be one, even as thou, Father, in me and I in thee,
21that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that thou didst send me.
22And the glory which thou hast given me I have given them, that they may be one as we [are] one,
23I in them and thou in me, that they may be perfected into one, [and] that the world may know that thou didst send me and lovedst them as thou lovedst me.
24Father, that what thou hast given me, I desire that, where I am, they also may be with me, that they may behold my glory which thou hast given me, because thou lovedst me before [the] world’s foundation.
25Righteous Father, though the world knew thee not, but I knew thee, and these knew that thou didst send me.
26And I made thy name known to them and will make [it] known, that the love wherewith thou lovedst me may be in them and I in them. (John 14:1‑17:26)
