Wind

Boyd’s Bible Dictionary:

(blow). Hebrews recognized the cardinal winds in their “four winds,” north, south, east, west (Ezek. 37:99Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind, prophesy, son of man, and say to the wind, Thus saith the Lord God; Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe upon these slain, that they may live. (Ezekiel 37:9); Dan. 8:88Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven. (Daniel 8:8); Zech. 2:66Ho, ho, come forth, and flee from the land of the north, saith the Lord: for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heaven, saith the Lord. (Zechariah 2:6); Matt. 24:3131And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. (Matthew 24:31)). The east wind injured vegetation (Gen. 41:66And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them. (Genesis 41:6); Job 1:1919And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. (Job 1:19); Isa. 27:88In measure, when it shooteth forth, thou wilt debate with it: he stayeth his rough wind in the day of the east wind. (Isaiah 27:8)). The south wind brought heat (Luke 12:5555And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass. (Luke 12:55)). The southwest and north winds brought clear cool weather (Job 37:9,229Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north. (Job 37:9)
22Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty. (Job 37:22)
; Prov. 25:2323The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue. (Proverbs 25:23)). The west wind, coming from the Mediterranean, brought rain.

Concise Bible Dictionary:

The wind, as all else, is used by God to work out His purposes with man (Ex. 10:1313And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the Lord brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. (Exodus 10:13); Psa. 135:77He causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain; he bringeth the wind out of his treasuries. (Psalm 135:7); Ezek. 13:1313Therefore thus saith the Lord God; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it. (Ezekiel 13:13)). As the unseen wind comes and goes we know not whither, “so is every one that is born of the Spirit” (John 3:88The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. (John 3:8)). Its power is felt, and the result abides. The wind is also used as a symbol of the unseen influence of Satan (Jude 1212These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; (Jude 12)); and where permitted he carries out his evil designs by the wind (Job 1:1919And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. (Job 1:19)).
