 The “old man” (vs. 9) and the “new man” (vs. 10). This is a subject that is not well understood. These two terms do not refer to the flesh and the new nature, as is commonly thought, but rather are abstract expressions that denote the corrupt state of the fallen race of Adam and the new moral order in the new creation race under Christ. The old man does not refer to Adam personally, but to what is characteristic of the fallen race of which he is the head.
