(sap, resin). The Hebrew word for soap implies any alkaline substance used for cleansing (Jer. 2:2222For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord God. (Jeremiah 2:22); Mal. 3:22But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: (Malachi 3:2)).

“Soap, Sope” From Concise Bible Dictionary:

Spoken of as used for cleansing the person, and as employed by the fuller (Jer. 2:2222For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord God.
