Plenty of Room!

Listen from:
“Guess what!” said Marta, “I have a new baby sister!”
“How nice,” I replied.
“Would you like to see her?” Marta asked.
“I sure would!”
We were in Mexico for a Bible meeting and the meeting was about to start, but Marta and Gaby ran off to their house and soon came back with a tiny baby. They placed her in my arms, and we all talked about how tiny and sweet she was.
“What’s her name?” I asked.
“Virginia,” they said.
“That’s the same name as one of my favorite aunts!” I told them.
Soon it was time for the meeting, and that was the last I saw of tiny baby Virginia for a week or so. The next time I saw her was in the middle of another Bible meeting. Right while we were all singing a hymn, Gaby walked in and placed little Virginia in my arms and walked out again! I was rather surprised, but since it had been a long time since my children had been that small it was fun to hold her. But this time little Virginia had not been washed and did not seem to be gaining weight. We knew the family was very poor, but we wondered if something more were wrong.
When Virginia was about a month old we found out. My husband looked up from his work one day and saw Marta’s mother standing there holding baby Virginia. She held out her baby to my husband.
“Take my baby,” she said. “I can’t look after her. Please take my baby.”
At first my husband was surprised at the request, but he remembered that the mother was very poor and that she hadn’t really brought up her other children. The old grandmother had fed them and taken care of them.
“My wife and I are really too old to look after another baby,” my husband told her. But he wanted to help, so he went with the mother to speak with the family. Perhaps someone in the family would help look after the baby. The family gathered around, and then my husband asked if the grandmother could look after Virginia.
“No way!” the grandmother said. “I’ve already brought up my own children and two of my grandchildren. No, I’m too old,” and with many other words she said she couldn’t.
Well, then maybe the uncle?
“Oh, no!” he said. “My wife already has too much work with our own two children. No, we can’t take her.”
A cousin who had recently been married and had no children of her own was also sitting there. Would she take her?
“Absolutely not!” she said. “That baby cries day and night and I’d go crazy.”
There was no one else to ask, and no one wanted baby Virginia. Her mother and father would have to keep her, even though there was no room for her in their homes, in their lives, or in their hearts. No room for Virginia in all their family! Oh, but I want to tell you that there is plenty of room in God’s family! He wants more children in His family, and it does not matter if they are little or sick or poor! God loves every single person in the whole world, and He has room for you in His family. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:1616For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (John 3:16).
God has already saved many millions, but there’s still more room in His house. Jesus said, “In My Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” John 14:22In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (John 14:2). God wants His house filled and has told His servants, “Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” Luke 14:2323And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. (Luke 14:23).
The grandmother was too old and too tired to bring up another child, but God is not. The Bible says, “Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?” Isaiah 40:2828Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. (Isaiah 40:28). God is able and willing to save you, care for you, and take you safely to His wonderful home in heaven.
The uncle and his wife were too busy for Virginia. Is God too busy for you? Never! Jesus said that “him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.” John 6:3737All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. (John 6:37).
The cousin just couldn’t stand the troubles that a baby would bring into her home. Will the troubles in your life be too much for God? No! He even invites you to bring your troubles to Him! “Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me.” Psalm 50:1515And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. (Psalm 50:15). How great is God’s love!
There’s plenty of room in God’s family for you. Do you have room in your life for Him? You have room for your friends, for your family, for fun and many other things. Do you have room for Jesus?
Some day, very soon, there will be no more room in God’s family. Some day His house will be filled, and Jesus will come to take all of God’s children to the mansions that He has prepared. Will you be there? Come to Jesus for salvation today!
God’s house is filling fast –
Yet there is room!
Some guest will be the last -
Yet there is room!
