The Wrong Way

What a busy time our family was having. My children and I were helping my sister Michelle move. We were moving boxes and furniture from one house to another. There was so much to do and many trips to make back and forth.
The first day we needed to make several trips, so Michelle taught me the way to the new house and back. I soon knew it by heart and made the trips on my own.
The second day my other sister, Kathy, joined our moving team at the old house. She said she already knew the way to the new house.
After both our cars were loaded we started on our way. Kathy’s car was in the lead, and she kept a nice even pace so our heavy loads would not shift. I drove right behind her for the 10-minute trip.
After we made several turns we were on the road leading to Michelle’s new home. But when we were almost there, Kathy drove right past the last turn she kept going straight ahead! Even though I could see the house and knew she had passed the turn, I drove right past the turn too and followed her... the wrong way.
In that moment when she didn’t make that last turn, I had an instant of doubt, wondering if she knew another way I didn’t know. So I followed her. Boys and girls, have you ever doubted what the Bible tells us is the only way to heaven? Perhaps friends have told you they are going to heaven “another way.” Have you wondered if they might be right? Have you wanted to follow them?
The Lord Jesus tells us in John 14:66Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6), “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” There is no other way to heaven than by accepting the Lord Jesus as your very own Saviour! God warns those who doubt that this is true by telling them, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man; but the end thereof are the ways of death [to hell].” Proverbs 14:1212There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverbs 14:12). God repeats the very same warning again in Proverbs 16:2525There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverbs 16:25). And when God tells us something twice, it is very, very important!
Kathy and I soon discovered we were on the wrong road, and we had to find a place to turn around. We had to back up with our heavy loads and retrace our steps until we came back to the right road.
Why make a mistake and waste time by following others who seem very sure that they can get to heaven another way than what the Bible clearly tells us? The only way to heaven is by admitting to God that you are a sinner and letting the Lord Jesus wash your sins away in His blood. “The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:77But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. (1 John 1:7).
Are you on the right way to heaven?
