John 2:6⁶And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. (John 2:6). Six waterpots of stone....containing two or three firkins apiece.

The metretes, “firkin,” was the principal Greek liquid measure, and contained a little more than eight gallons and seven eighths. It corresponded to the Hebrew bath. See note on Ezekiel 45:10¹⁰Ye shall have just balances, and a just ephah, and a just bath. (Ezekiel 45:10) (#584).
