• “What is the breadth and length, and depth and height.” This cannot refer to that which immediately follows and is distinctly additional —“and to know the love of Christ.” They therefore must combine in “the fullness of God.” The Holy Spirit alone can enable us to breathe in this atmosphere of heaven — “the vast universe of bliss,” God’s presence, light, love and glory, in all its infinitude. In richness, can anything in God’s Word be found to equal this? (“Help on Hard Verses” by A.C. Brown)

• He brings you into infinity. I do not believe that it means the breadth, length, depth, and height of the love of Christ. The passage is often quoted so, and oftener so understood; but the “and” of the next verse indicates another sense distinctly... I venture to think that what he puts before us here, with such singular marks of undefined grandeur, is the mystery of which he had been speaking, and assuredly not Christ's love, which he immediately adds.
