(whose father is Jehovah). (1) A son of King Jeroboam I; died in early life (1 Kings 14). (2) Son of Rehoboam, and his successor to the throne. A wicked king. Reign, 959-956 B. C. (2 Chron. 12:16¹⁶And Rehoboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Abijah his son reigned in his stead. (2 Chronicles 12:16); 2 Chron. 13). 1. One of Samuel’s sons, a judge in Israel, who took bribes and perverted judgment. The Israelites gave this as their reason for wanting a king (1 Sam. 8:2²Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beer-sheba. (1 Samuel 8:2); 1 Chron. 6:28²⁸And the sons of Samuel; the firstborn Vashni, and Abiah. (1 Chronicles 6:28)).

2. Wife of Hezron (1 Chron. 2:24²⁴And after that Hezron was dead in Caleb-ephratah, then Abiah Hezron's wife bare him Ashur the father of Tekoa. (1 Chronicles 2:24)).

3. Son of Becher a Benjamite (1 Chron. 7:8⁸And the sons of Becher; Zemira, and Joash, and Eliezer, and Elioenai, and Omri, and Jerimoth, and Abiah, and Anathoth, and Alameth. All these are the sons of Becher. (1 Chronicles 7:8)).
