Lev. 21:1‑22:33• 1And Jehovah said to Moses, Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them, There shall none defile himself for a dead one (soul) among his peoples,
2except for his kin that is near to him—for his mother, and for his father, and for his son, and for his daughter, and for his brother;
3and for his sister a virgin, that is near to him, who hath had no husband, for her he may defile himself.
4He shall not make himself unclean, [being] a chief among his peoples, to profane himself.
5They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.
6They shall be holy to their God and not profane the name of their God; for they offer the fire-offerings of Jehovah, the bread of their God; therefore shall they be holy.
7They shall not take to wife a harlot or one dishonoured; neither shall they take a woman put away from her husband; for he is holy to his God.
8And thou shalt sanctify him; for the bread of thy God he offereth; he shall be holy to thee; for I, Jehovah, who sanctify you, am holy.
9And the daughter of any priest, if she profane herself by playing the harlot, she profaneth her father; she shall be burnt with fire.
10And the priest that is greater than his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil was poured, and who is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not uncover his head , nor rend his garments.
11Neither shall he come near any person dead, nor make himself unclean for his father nor for his mother.
12Neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the consecration of the anointing oil of his God [is] upon him: I [am] Jehovah.
13And he shall take a wife in her virginity.
14A widow or a divorced woman or one dishonoured, a harlot, these shall he not take; but he shall take as wife a virgin from among his peoples.
15And he shall not profane his seed among his peoples; for I Jehovah sanctify him.
16And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
17Speak to Aaron, saying, Whoever of thy seed throughout their generations that hath a defect, he shall not approach to present the bread of his God.
18For whatever man hath a defect, he shall not approach: a blind man, or a lame, or he that hath a flat nose, or one limb longer than the other;
19or a man that is broken-footed, or broken-handed;
20or humpbacked, or a dwarf, or that hath a spot in his eye, or is scurvy or scabbed, or hath his testicles broken.
21No man of the seed of Aaron the priest that hath defect shall come near to present Jehovah's fire-offerings: he hath a defect; he shall not come near to present the bread of his God.
22He shall eat the bread of his God, [both] of the most holy and of the holy.
23Only he shall not come in unto the veil, nor shall he draw near unto the altar, for he hath a defect; that he profane not my holy things ; for I Jehovah sanctify them.
24And Moses told [it] to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the sons of Israel.
1And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
2Speak to Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not my holy name [in] what they hallow to me: I [am] Jehovah.
3Say to them, Whosoever of all your seed among your generations that goeth unto the holy things which the children of Israel hallow to Jehovah, having his uncleanness upon him, that person shall be cut off from my presence: I [am] Jehovah.
4Whatsoever man of the seed of Aaron [is] a leper, or hath a running of the reins, shall not eat of the holy things, until he be clean; and whosoever toucheth anything unclean of the dead, or a man whose seed passeth from him;
5or whosoever toucheth any reptile whereby he may be made unclean, or a man from whom he may take uncleanness whatsoever uncleanness he hath;
6the person that hath touched any such shall be unclean until even, and shall not eat of the holy things, unless he wash his flesh with water.
7And when the sun is down, he shall be clean, and shall afterward eat of the holy things, because it [is] his food.
8That which dieth of itself, or is torn, he shall not eat to defile himself with it: I [am] Jehovah.
9They shall therefore keep mine ordinance lest they bear sin for it, and die therefore, if they profane it: I Jehovah sanctify them.
10No stranger shall eat the holy thing: a sojourner of the priest, or a hired servant shall not eat the holy thing.
11But if the priest buy a person with his money, he shall eat of it, and he that is born in his house; they shall eat of his meat.
12If the priest's daughter also belong to a strange man, she may not eat of an offering of the holy things.
13But if the priest's daughter be a widow, or divorced, and have no child, and is returned to her father's house, as in her youth, she shall eat of her father's meat; but no stranger shall eat of it.
14And if a man eat the holy thing unwittingly, then he shall put the fifth thereof to it, and shall offer [it] to the priest with the holy thing.
15And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer to Jehovah;
16or suffer them to bear the iniquity of trespass when they eat their holy things; for I Jehovah sanctify them.
17And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
18Speak to Aaron and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel, and say to them, If there be any man of the house of Israel, or of the sojourners in Israel, that presenteth his gift (corban) for any of his voluntary offerings which they present to Jehovah as a burnt offering,
19it shall be accepted for you without blemish, a male of the oxen, of the sheep, and of the goats.
20Whatsoever hath a blemish shall ye not offer, for it shall not be acceptable for you.
21And when a man offereth a sacrifice of peace offerings to Jehovah as a vow or an offering of the herds or of the flocks, it shall be without blemish to be accepted: no defect shall be therein.
22Blind or broken or maimed or ulcerous or scurvy or scabbed, ye shall not offer these to Jehovah; and a fire offering shall ye not make of these on the altar to Jehovah.
23A bullock and a sheep that hath any limb superfluous or lacking that mayest thou offer as a voluntary offering; but as a vow it shall not be accepted.
24That which is bruised or crushed or broken or cut shall ye not present to Jehovah; neither in your land shall ye do (so).
25And from a stranger's hand shall ye not offer the bread of your God from any of these; because their corruption [is] in them; a blemish [is] in them: they shall not be accepted for you.
26And Jehovah spake to Moses, saying,
27An ox, or a sheep, or a goat, when it is brought forth, shall be seven days under its dam; and from the eighth day and thenceforth it shall be accepted as a fire offering to Jehovah.
28A cow or sheep—it and its young—shall ye not slaughter in one day.
29And when ye sacrifice a sacrifice of thanksgiving to Jehovah, ye shall sacrifice for your acceptance.
30On that day shall it be eaten; ye shall leave none of it until morning: I [am] Jehovah.
31And ye shall observe my commandments and do them: I [am] Jehovah.
32And ye shall not profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I [am] Jehovah that hallow you,
33that brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I [am] Jehovah.
(Lev. 21:1‑22:33)
;
Num. 16:16‑50• 16And Moses said to Korah, Be thou and all thy band before Jehovah, thou, and they, and Aaron, tomorrow.
17And take each his censer, and put incense thereon, and present before Jehovah every man his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; and thou, and Aaron, each his censer.
18And they took each his censer, and put fire on them, and laid incense thereon, and stood before the entrance to the tent of meeting, as well as Moses and Aaron.
19And Korah gathered the whole assembly against them to the entrance of the tent of meeting. And the glory of Jehovah appeared to all the assembly.
20And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying,
21Separate yourselves from the midst of this assembly, and I will consume them in a moment.
22And they fell on their faces, and said, O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh! shall one man sin, and wilt thou be wroth with the whole assembly?
23And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
24Speak unto the assembly, saying, Get you up from about the habitation of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.
25And Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him.
26And he spoke to the assembly, saying, Depart, I pray you, from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest ye perish in all their sins.
27And they got up from the habitation of Koran, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side. And Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the entrance of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little ones.
28And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that Jehovah has sent me to do all these deeds, for they are not out of my own heart:
29if these men die as all men die, and are visited with the visitation of all men, Jehovah has not sent me;
30but if Jehovah make a new thing, and the ground open its mouth, and swallow them up, and all that they have, and they go down alive into Sheol, then ye shall know that these men have despised Jehovah.
31And it came to pass when he had ended speaking all these words, that the ground clave apart that was under them.
32And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
33They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.
34And all Israel that were round about them fled at the cry of them: for they said, Lest the earth swallow us up also.
35And there came out a fire from Jehovah, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.
36And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
37speak unto Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter thou the fire yonder; for they are hallowed.
38The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before Jehovah, therefore they are hallowed: and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.
39And Eleazar the priest took the brazen censers, wherewith they that were burnt had offered; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar:
40to be a memorial unto the children of Israel, that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, come near to offer incense before Jehovah; that he be not as Korah, and as his company: as Jehovah said to him by the hand of Moses.
41But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron, saying, Ye have killed the people of Jehovah.
42And it came to pass, when the congregation was gathered against Moses and against Aaron, that they looked toward the tabernacle of the congregation: and, behold, the cloud covered it, and the glory of Jehovah appeared.
43And Moses and Aaron came before the tabernacle of the congregation.
44And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,
45Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment. And they fell upon their faces.
46And Moses said unto Aaron, Take the censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from Jehovah; the plague is begun.
47And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people; and he put on incense, and made atonement for the people.
48And he stood between the dead and the living, and the plague was stayed.
49Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand seven hundred, besides them that had died because of the matter of Korah.
50And Aaron returned to Moses to the entrance of the tent of meeting; and the plague was stayed.

Num. 17:1‑13• 1And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
2Speak unto the children of Israel, and take of them a staff, according to the house of their fathers, and of all their princes according to the house of their fathers, twelve rods: write thou every man's name upon his rod.
3And thou shalt write Aaron's name upon the rod of Levi; for one staff shall be for each head of their fathers' houses.
4And thou shalt lay them up in the tent of meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you.
5And it shall come to pass, that the man whom I shall choose, his staff shall bud forth; and I will make to cease from before me the murmurings of the children of Israel, that they murmur against you.
6And Moses spoke to the children of Israel, and all their princes gave him a staff, one staff for each prince according to their fathers' houses, twelve staves, and the staff of Aaron was among their staves.
7And Moses laid the staves before Jehovah in the tent of the testimony.
8And it came to pass that on the morrow Moses went into the tabernacle of witness; and, behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and brought forth buds, and bloomed blossoms, and yielded almonds.
9And Moses brought out all the rods from before Jehovah unto the children of Israel; and they looked, and took every man his rod.
10And Jehovah said to Moses, Bring Aaron's staff again before the testimony, to be kept as a token for the sons of rebellion, that thou mayest put an end to their murmurings before me, that they may not die.
11And Moses did so: as Jehovah had commanded him, so did he.
12And the children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying, Lo, we die, we perish; we all perish.
13Every one that comes at all near to the tabernacle of Jehovah shall die: shall we then expire altogether?

Deut. 18:1‑8• 1The priests, the Levites, and the whole tribe of Levi, shall have no portion nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of Jehovah made by fire and his inheritance.
2Therefore shall they have no inheritance among their brethren. Jehovah is their inheritance, as he hath said unto them.
3And this shall be the priest's due, from the people, from them that sacrifice a sacrifice, whether ox, or sheep: they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the jawbones, and the maw.
4The firstfruit of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep shalt thou give him.
5For Jehovah thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes to stand to minister in the name of Jehovah, him and his sons forever.
6And if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourned, and come with all the desire of his mind unto the place which Jehovah shall choose;
7then he shall minister in the name of Jehovah his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, which stand there before Jehovah.
8They shall have like portions to eat, beside that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.

Heb. 7:11‑14• 11If therefore perfection were through the Levitical priesthood, for [based] on it the people had the law, what further need that a different priest should arise according to the order of Melchizedek, and not be said according to the order of Aaron?
12For the priesthood being changed there cometh of necessity a change of law also.
13For he of whom these things are said hath part in a different tribe from which no one hath attended to the altar;
14for [it is] evident beforehand that our Lord hath sprung out of Judah, as to which tribe Moses spoke nothing about priests.

Ex. 29:33,36‑37• 33They shall eat the things with which the atonement was made, to consecrate and to hallow them; but a stranger shall not eat of them, for they are holy.
36And thou shalt offer every day a bullock as a sin-offering for atonement; and the altar shalt thou cleanse from sin, by making atonement for it, and shalt anoint it, to hallow it.
37Seven days shalt thou make atonement for the altar and hallow it; and the altar shall be most holy: whatever toucheth the altar shall be holy.

11And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying,
12When thou shalt take the sum of the children of Israel according to those of them that are numbered, then shall they give every man a ransom for his soul to Jehovah on their being numbered, that there be no plague among them on their being numbered.
13This shall they give—every one that passeth among them that are numbered—half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary, —twenty gerahs the shekel; a half shekel shall be the heave-offering for Jehovah.
14Every one that passeth among those that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give the heave-offering of Jehovah.
15The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when ye give the heave-offering of Jehovah, to make atonement for your souls.
16And thou shalt take the atonement-money of the children of Israel, and devote it to the service of the tent of meeting; and it shall be a memorial to the children of Israel before Jehovah, to make atonement for your souls.
