Adam

Concise Bible Dictionary:

A town near the Jordan, named only in Joshua 3:16,16That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho. (Joshua 3:16) which should read “a heap very far off, by [or at] Adam, the city that is beside Zaretan.” The waters of death were heaped at Adam as if to teach the death of the first man at the passage of the Jordan. Adam is identified with ed Damieh, 32° 7' N, 35° 33' E. If this is correct, the waters were piled up some 20 miles from where the Israelites crossed. See JORDAN.
