Will Your Anchor Hold?

Listen from:
ONE BEAUTIFUL day several of us were out in a small boat sailing along over the waves. Suddenly the engine stopped. The men worked hard to get it going again, but it would not start. All the while we were drifting closer to the rocks along the shore.
One of us dropped the anchor, but the bottom was sandy, the anchor would not hold, and we continued to drift nearer to the shore. Then just before we would crash onto the rocks, the anchor caught hold on the rocky bottom and we were spared. Another boat came and towed us to safety.
What anchor in your life do you have, dear reader, to keep your soul from drifting onto the rocks of eternal ruin, from drifting down to hell? Perhaps you say, “Oh, it will come out all right in the end.” Listen to what the Bible says: “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Prov. 14:1212There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverbs 14:12).
Those who have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, have an anchor that will never drift, and can say, “We... have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which entereth into that within the veil: whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus.” Heb. 6:18-2018That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: 19Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil; 20Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec. (Hebrews 6:18‑20).
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love.
