Once there was a family with two young children named Sammy and Sarah. Their father kept their piggy banks safe for them, and they were always locked, so the children did not even know how much money they had.
Sammy came to his father one day and said that he would like to get a present for his mother for her birthday. His father said it would not be a present from him unless he paid for it out of his own money, but Sammy was happy to pay for it.
So, very soon, his father took Sammy to the store to buy a present for his mother. They looked around carefully, and at last Sammy picked out a very nice gift. His father told him he didn’t have enough money for that one. Soon Sammy picked out another gift. This time, his father told him that he would be able to pay for it, but it would take almost all of his money. Sammy didn’t mind that at all, and he told his father that he would like to get it for his mamma.
They bought it and took it home to give to Sammy’s mother on her birthday.
His father was so pleased with Sammy’s unselfishness, and the love he had shown to his mother, that he decided to do something special. Every now and then, Sammy’s father would put some money into the piggy bank, without Sammy knowing it, and soon Sammy had more money in his piggy bank than he did before he bought the nice gift for his mother.
If God our Father sees us using our money for helping others and other things that He cares about, won’t it please Him even more than Sammy’s gift pleased his father? The Bible says, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:3333But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)). That means that if we seek God’s interests first, even with our money, He will be sure to take care of us.
