Matthew 6:19-2119Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Matthew 6:19‑21); Luke 12:3434For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Luke 12:34); Philippians 1:2121For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21);
Colossians 3:33For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:3); Matthew 19:2929And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life. (Matthew 19:29); Mark 10:29-3129And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's, 30But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. 31But many that are first shall be last; and the last first. (Mark 10:29‑31);
Hebrews 13:55Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. (Hebrews 13:5)
In the second century a Christian was brought before a king. This king wanted him to recant and give up Christ and Christianity, but the man spurned the proposition. So the king said, “If you don’t do it, I will banish you.”
The man smiled and answered, “You can’t banish me from Christ, for He says He will never leave me nor forsake me.”
The king got angry and said, “Well, I will confiscate your property and take it all from you.”
The man replied, “My treasures are laid up on high; you cannot get them.”
The king became still more angry and said, “I will kill you.”
“Well,” the man answered, “I have been dead forty years! I have been dead with Christ, dead to the world, and my life is hid with Christ in God, and you cannot touch it.”
“What are we going to do with such a fanatic?” sighed the king.
