Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth . . . inordinate affection.
Inordinate affection is vile passion. Once again, the level of the world’s standard may be practiced by the Christian unless he is diligent before the Lord to keep vile passion in the place of death. The Old Testament states that our heart is “deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked.” That’s our old nature. Once we become saved, we have a new nature that is the complete opposite. Let’s keep our vile passions down and let God’s pure love show instead.
