A jewel is a precious (rare) substance designed and shaped to appear attractive by how it reflects and bends light. When one values another, they often give the gift of a jewel as an expression of their love and the value that person is in their eyes. So a diamond ring is a common gift of a man to a women, when he asks her to marry him and she accepts. We are precious to the heart of God and our Lord Jesus. God has chosen us to be the bride of His Son—the “chief corner stone,” the most precious One. We have been redeemed by the precious blood of Christ and clothed with the garments of salvation. Now we are being shaped and molded to be like Christ. In a coming day when the work of the Master craftsman is completed, we, as the bride of Christ, are described as “having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal” (Rev. 21:1111Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; (Revelation 21:11)). Jewels are rare and valued, for the substance from which they are made is rare. As we read the articles in this issue, may we learn to value more what it means to be a jewel. A jewel is to display outwardly what should be true inwardly. Otherwise, it is “as a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion” (Prov. 11:2222As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion. (Proverbs 11:22)).
