The Only Refuge

Listen from:
Tom was a young drummer boy in the Civil War. He was known in his regiment by the name of “the young deacon” because of his Christian testimony.
In one of the battles Tom was mortally wounded. As they were carrying in the wounded, they heard a feeble voice singing—
“Other refuge have I none,
Hangs my helpless soul on Thee;
Leave, O leave me not alone,
Still support and comfort me.
Then all was quiet. In the morning light they found dear Tom — “absent from the body... present with the Lord.” (2 Cor. 5:88We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5:8)).
