The Missing Lunch Box

“Mrs. Garcia, I can’t find my lunch box,” said little Lilianna to her kindergarten teacher. “What do you mean you can’t find it?” asked her teacher. “Did you look in your cubby where you put it this morning when you came to school?” “Yes, Mrs. Garcia, but it’s not there!” Mrs. Garcia went over to the cubby where Lilianna’s things were kept. Lilianna was right—her lunch was not there. “Well,” said Mrs. Garcia to the sad little girl, “let’s go up and down all the rows of desks where the children are eating their lunches, and you tell me if you see yours. Perhaps someone took yours by mistake.”
So, Lilianna and her teacher went together ... up and down the rows of 26 desks, carefully looking at each lunchbox. She asked Lilianna to look very carefully and tell her if she recognized her own. “No, no, no.” After the last “no” it was an even more unhappy Lilianna who realized she had no lunch to eat!
Lilianna and her teacher went back to the cubbies, and yes, there was one lunch box left, but it was not in Liliana’s cubby. Mrs. Garcia turned to the class and asked them all to look up and see if they recognized it. No one claimed it. “Well,” said Mrs. Garcia, “I have no idea what happened to your lunch box, but since this one is left, you just eat what is in it today so you have some lunch, okay?”
So Lilianna went to her desk with the lunch box that was not hers and opened it. The first thing she picked up was a sandwich, so she took it out of the wrapper and started to eat it. But wait ... what was this sandwich made of? She took it apart and saw that it only had a strange green paste on the bread ... spinach paste! Yuck! No wonder the real owner didn’t want to eat their own sandwich! They must have figured any other lunch would be better than this one!
Lilianna and her teacher never did find out who had taken her lunch that day. Years later when Lilianna was telling the story, she was laughing. It sounded very funny now, but it wasn’t at all funny then!
Children, whoever took Lilianna’s lunch box that day did a good job of hiding it and they got to eat a much better lunch than their own. They seemed to get away with it, didn’t they? But did they really? There is a Bible verse found in Genesis 16:1313And she called the name of the Lord that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? (Genesis 16:13) that says, “Thou God seest me.” Another verse says, “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:33The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. (Proverbs 15:3)). Yes, children, God was watching that day, and He saw exactly what happened. Every one of us will have to answer to God for stealing, lies, cheating and other sins that we do. But we have very good news! The Lord Jesus died on the cross for all those sins, and they can all be taken away because of the precious blood He gave to wash away all our sins. If you haven’t done so yet, why not make this the day you accept Him as your Savior? Not only does He want to be your Savior, but He wants to be your very best Friend too!
O be careful little hands what you do,
For the Father up above is looking down in love,
So, be careful little hands what you do.
