PERHAPS Grandfather can tell you about riding in a street car like this, and thinking it was quite a wonderful thing. There stood the driver with his whip in place, and behind him all the passengers inside the little curtained windows thought they had a speedy ride, if the horse was not too tired.
That was years ago. It's an old-fashioned thing now, probably rotted to pieces and burned in someone's fire. Other men made much better street cars, big noisy ones, run by electricity, and now they are better still with twice the speed and half the rattling! It is wonderful how clever men are to improve things and make them a little better each year.
But God never has to improve anything He has made. Why? Because He makes it perfect the first time. Of course we know that sin has left its imprint on everything here, but when God, by His Holy Spirit, caused men to complete the Bible nearly two thousand years ago, it was perfectly finished, and every word of it is as true now as it was then, and will be for all eternity.
The Word of God does not grow old-fashioned and does not need changing to suit the world of today. It is a very different world, in speed and sound and light, since Grandfather was a little boy but man is a fallen sinner now as he was then. School books have had to change, and roads and buildings
have had to be made over, but God's way of salvation for sinful men has not changed at all. Indeed, when everything in this world has passed away, God's Word will remain unchanged before the throne of God.
This holy Word will bring you blessing and salvation if you accept the Saviour of whom it speaks now, or it will be there at the great white throne to condemn you if you reject Him. Which shall it be?
