CSV files are created that the script will automatically copy over to the correct production folders.
Run the InDesign script to generate production files.
Open Indesign, and from the scripts menu, choose “Create TC Print Files.jsx”
This will open a window like
Make sure the correct Year, Month & cms folder are selected/Entered.
Note. If it’s a wrong year / cms number consistently, make sure that the script is up to date. (updating it should happen yearly)
Choose the final file (it should automatically show the correct folder)
Unless you don’t want the full version of the addressed copies, leave “All pages (25-30 minutes)” selected
Click “Create Print Files”, and come back in 20-30 minutes.
Note, if it prompts you to see if the uv files have been created, it means that the files it found are older than the last few days. You probably need to run the labels then hit ok. It will continue with the newly created files.
It will automatically create the correct folder structure in: X:\Production\Periodicals\TC
Print a proof
Open X:\Production\Periodicals\TC\(year)\(month)\
Print 2 Copies of each cover (00-Month TC Overseas Cover 2up.pdf, 00-Month TC Continental Cover 2up.pdf)
(I REALLY wish that the c7000 had hot folders, any color printer purchased in the future should have them)
Use 12x18 32lb bond gloss (12x18 80lb gloss text) for Overseas (Foreign) cover
Use 12x18 80lb Cover gloss for Continental covers.
You can either print from the pdf, or import the file from fiery. I’m not sure which is easier. I think importing is faster.
To print:
Open each cover pdf file, and print with either the 7000c-TCCovForeign or 7000c-PamCov printer (on the btp-apps server)
Double check that the print settings are right:
To Import:
Remote desktop into btp-apps and open fiery workstation, and click the import button.
Add the two covers in the production folder.
Click “Hold” (not process & hold because they’ll need to re-process after settings are changed)
After it’s been ‘held’, open each file and make sure settings match the settings in the above screen shots. (foreign covers will need to have different paper selected)
Print 2 Copies each.
Trim Covers (Use the same cuts for all cover sheets, Continental and Overseas)
First Cut—17.625”
Rotate 180
Cut—17.25”
Cut—8.75”
Cut—8.5”
Combine both stacks if possible
Cut—11.5”
rotate 180
Cut—11”
Next, print the body file (either continental or overseas) and print to a production printer.
Load the trimmed covers into tray 2. (Flipped upside down on with the axis on the short edge. The printer will flip it so it works right. Another way of saying it is: Face down with bottom toward you)
Use the TCBod or Pambod printer queue for the printer you loaded the cover into.
The letter sized paper typically goes into tray 3
Overseas get trimmed to 4.25 x 6.5 (I think. Check cover to be sure)
Get Proof approval
Print covers—Open the fiery workstation, (rdp to btp-apps) set the cover counts and print
215 copies for foreign (small)
525 copies for continental (large)
Note: sometimes the printed sheets can come out rather curled. Its good to check the pages being printed to make sure they’re flat.
Trim covers. (Use instructions from above)
Print all foreign bodies
Print 200 continental non-addressed versions.
Print addressed version
Open line-up, then click Tools > Print TC Files
It will open this window:
Click ‘Select TC Folder’ (the name is misleading, I’ve changed it to ‘Select TC Files’ when the app is next published) and select all of the addressed pdf’s.
It will automatically copy the files one at a time to the selected hot folder. (More hot folders can be added by editing the printers in lineup settings.)
Since the printer queue can only handle so many files at a time, it pauses after every 100 files. Just uncheck the ‘Pause Printing’ checkbox to resume.
Print remaining blank bodies.
