Probable origin of.
Gen. 4:4, 7

And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: (Genesis 4:4)

If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. (Genesis 4:7)

WAS OFFERED
For sins of ignorance.
Lev. 4:2, 13, 22, 27

Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the Lord concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them: (Leviticus 4:2)

And if the whole congregation of Israel sin through ignorance, and the thing be hid from the eyes of the assembly, and they have done somewhat against any of the commandments of the Lord concerning things which should not be done, and are guilty; (Leviticus 4:13)

THE BLOOD OF,
For a priest or for the congregation, brought by the priest into the tabernacle.
Lev. 4:5, 16

For a priest or for the congregation, sprinkled seven times before the Lord, outside the vail, by the priest with his finger.
Lev. 4:6, 17

For a priest or for the congregation, put upon the horns of the altar of incense.
Lev. 4:7, 18

And the priest shall put some of the blood upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the Lord, which is in the tabernacle of the congregation; and shall pour all the blood of the bullock at the bottom of the altar of the burnt offering, which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. (Leviticus 4:7)

Lev. 4:25
