Sick on an Airplane

Listen from:
Captain Tom Hood is an airplane pilot on a large jet. He flies hundreds of people to places all over the world. Many people who fly on these large airplanes are going on their vacations or holidays to other countries.
When it’s close to time for takeoff, Captain Tom walks down the long ramp onto the plane and settles into his seat in the cockpit. He checks all the instruments and makes sure there is enough fuel for the long flight. Meanwhile, the flight attendants are working in the back of the airplane, checking that there are enough food and drinks for all the passengers. They greet all the excited passengers with a happy “Hello.” All the passengers are looking forward to arriving at their vacation country.
On one trip, Captain Tom and all the passengers were boarding their airplane in the city of Toronto, Canada. The passengers were very excited to be flying to Rome, a large city in the country of Italy. The flight was long, crossing over the Atlantic Ocean, and would last many hours.
During the flight, one of the flight attendants called Captain Tom on the airplane phone to tell him that there was a passenger who had suddenly become very sick. Captain Tom talked to the sick man and then contacted a doctor, using a special telephone. He thought he would need to land the plane in Paris, France, a closer airport than Rome, to have the man taken to a hospital as soon as possible.
Now, landing a large jet airplane is not done quickly, like parking a car. It takes about thirty minutes to land a big airplane, so it has to be a large airport with long runways. They learned that the closest airport where they could land the plane did not have a suitable hospital close by. Captain Tom, the doctor and the sick man decided it would be better to go on to Rome. They arranged for an ambulance to meet the airplane as soon as they landed at the Rome airport. The ambulance would turn on the siren and flashing lights and rush the sick man to the hospital where a doctor would be waiting to help him.
Boys and girls, each one of us has a very serious illness that needs to be cured; it is called sin. There is no medicine that we can take to cure it or even help it a little. Like the man on the airplane who needed a doctor, there is only one Physician who can cure our sin sickness. Captain Tom couldn’t really help the man’s illness, but he could take him to the city where a doctor could help it.
This little Sunday school paper is directing you to the Great Physician, God’s own Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who can cure you of your serious sin sickness. He loves you and died on Calvary’s cross for sinners like you and me so that we can be washed clean of all our sins. First John 1:77The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. (John 1:7) says, “The blood of Jesus Christ His Son [cleanses] us from all sin.” There is no other way to be cured of your sin sickness.
God says there can be no sin in heaven, not even one! If you will come to Jesus and let Him wash your sins away, the door to heaven will be open for you when your life here on earth is over. He will meet you with His loving arms open wide to welcome you! “Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and hath made us kings and priests unto God and His Father” (Revelation 1:5-65And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. (Revelation 1:5‑6)).
Will you come to Jesus today and let Him cleanse you from your sins? He is the only cure for your serious sin sickness.
