High authorities support "them" as well as "him"; it does seem singular that the Revisers do not notice the alternative in their margin.

Here the case is simple enough. There are five uncial MSS. of the Revelation, and upwards of a hundred cursives, in not one of which has there been found the smallest ground for justifying Jerome’s "four parts." I use internal evidence to decide between readings with good external support on both sides, but never where all the direct witnesses are on one side, and you have hearsay evidence of one type on the other side. Besides, is it according to the analogy of this book, or of any other book, to speak of "four parts," if the entire empire were intended?
