 It appears to me that this account of the city's bright lustre like a jasper has a very close connection with what had just before been said of it, as having the "glory of God." For when God Himself was seen on the throne in Revelation 4, He was in appearance like a jasper and a sardis. (Lectures on Revelation 21: Part 1 by W. Kelly)
 Hence it is plain that this [jasper] is peculiarly the stone which is used to describe the glory of God, as far as it can be seen by a creature — not the glory of God which the creature cannot see. (Lectures on Revelation 21: Part 1 by W. Kelly)
 It was transparent jasper, jasper being used as a symbol of divine glory (ch. 4:3). (Revelation 21 by J.N. Darby)
 Jasper: (See Rev. 4:3). (Revelation 21 Symbols by A.H. Burton)

J. N. Darby Translation

11
having the glory of God. Her shiningc was like a most precious stone, as a crystal-like jasper stone;

JND Translation Notes

+
c
"Lightbearer" (used for heavenly luminaries), but here it would seem in general "brightness" or "shining." "She was the lightbearer," "she as a lightbearer was." Elsewhere used only Phil. 2.15.

W. Kelly Translation

+
11
Its lighta was like a stone most precious, as a jasper stone clear as crystal;

WK Translation Notes

a
There is no copulative "and" before "her light" save in a few cursives and versions, which misled Erasmus and the KJV. The best authorities have it not.
