These true stories are written down just as they have been told to children on Sunday afternoons.
They are only a few little specimens of the way in which the hand of God may be seen from day to day in the common lives of the men, women, and children around us. There are few of God’s people who could not add many more such true stories to the list, if they would but write simply and truthfully the things that have happened before their eyes.
God is always working in His own blessed way in the hearts of sinners, drawing them to Christ. He is always working for the instruction, and encouragement, and joy of His people. He uses ways and means, strange and insignificant perhaps in our eyes, to bring us to know Him better, and trust Him more completely. He orders the events of our lives so that we may learn something more than His care for us His creatures—even His love for us as those whom He has redeemed for Himself, and whom He is preparing for eternal fellowship with Him.
If any amongst us will observe these things, even they shall understand the loving-kindness of the Lord, and they will have many tales to tell of His wonderful ways and His constant care. And the more we observe these things, the more we shall discover that the one object of God in all His ways with us is that the Lord Jesus Christ, His beloved Son, should become more dear to our hearts, and we should be the more able to rejoice even now in the thought that we are chosen to be forever with Him, sharing His joy and glory in the ages to come.
This is true of all who believe in His name, and in the heart of God it is true of many who do not yet believe, but who are still lost sinners in the world that knows Him not. Some of these stories unfold to us the wonderful and unexpected means by which the knowledge of the Lord Jesus is brought to such lost sinners, who seemed to be out of reach of the sound of the gospel.
May some be encouraged by hearing these stories to carry the blessed message wherever they can find an open door, and trust in the Lord to guide them to the right place and the right person. Many happy surprises may still be in store for those who do so, and some day there will be many stories told in the glory, for which we must wait till that day comes.
