The author "falling asleep in Jesus" and buried in faith of certain resurrection, is no longer with us to revise his work.
The Publishers have desired to answer the demand for a new edition but have hesitated to do so because of some necessary revision. The original title Pagan Cremation or Christian Burial could conceivably provoke resentment or prejudice, therefore this new edition omits the adjectives and, we believe, more strongly poses the question. The subject taken up is one for the serious thought of all men for that "death is passed upon all men" but its main object is to alert all who profess Christianity to be guided by the Word of God rather than the wisdom of men in the matter of the disposal of their body in death.
In laying his argument for burial the Author appeals to the authority of Scripture. Hence the revision has not been a difficult task, requiring only the recasting of a few sentences and the expunging of some statistics as to the growth of the practice of cremation. A short supplementary article under the caption A Threefold Cord has been added. The publishers send out this revised booklet Cremation or Burial? with prayerful hope that many who profess godliness and who fear God and keep His Word will be deterred from conformity to the way of the world and in the matter of their death will their bodies to burial in faith of a glorious resurrection.
