The Afterward Time

"Whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth" (Hebrews 12:6).
"Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless AFTERWARD it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them that are exercised thereby" (Hebrews 12:11).
"He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men" (Lamentations 3:33).
“That He might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end" (Deuteronomy 8:16).
The AFTERWARD TIME is a wonderful time,
A time of rejoicing and gain;
A time for enjoying the fruit of the trial,
The fruit, which shall ever remain.
Look on, precious one, to the AFTERWARD TIME,
Forgetting the things that are past,
For God is preparing a blessing for you,
The trial will not always last.
God fashions and molds for the AFTERWARD TIME,
'Tis the latter end He's looking to,
When out of the bounty and love of His heart,
He may double His blessings to you.
Beloved, "The Lord doth not willingly grieve,"
Nor afflict any one of His own,
For 'tis "Whom the Lord loveth, He chasteneth," sore,
Still His pity and mercy are shown.
When God in His wisdom the chastening sends,
He has but one purpose in view,
And that is to shower more than ever before
His manifold mercies on you.
There is, precious one, a bright AFTERWARD TIME,
His compassions each morning are new.
In wisdom and mercy, and infinite love,
He is laying up blessings for you.
The Lord looks ahead to this AFTERWARD TIME,
The time of rich blessing and gain;
When it proves "for our profit'' the trial was sent,
May it never be suffered in vain!
May we look on, too, in the midst of the trial,
To the glorious AFTERWARD TIME,
When God in His grace, double blessings bestows,
With joy and rejoicing sublime.
"Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy" (James 5:11).
"The Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning" (Job 42:12).
"Make us glad according to the days wherein Thou hast afflicted us" (Psalm 90:15).

As Thy Days, So Shall Thy Strength Be

"As thy days, so shall thy strength be" (Deuteronomy 33:25).
"The Lord is my strength and song, and He is become my salvation" (Exodus 15:2).
"The Lord will give strength unto His people" (Psalm 29:11).
"Thy God hath COMMANDED thy strength" (Psalm 68:28).
"I was strengthened as the hand of the Lord my God was upon me" (Ezra 7:28).
"As thy days, so shall thy strength be,"
Is His promise sure and true;
Strength for every day arising,
Strength He sendeth just for you.
Not tomorrow's strength is given,
Yesterday's is past and gone:
But today's is just the measure,
For His child to rest upon.
"I will strengthen thee," God says it,
Strengthened by His mighty hand,
And in faithfulness, He giveth
Strength for every day He's planned.
For He knows our frame is weakness,
Knows each step along the way,
And He giveth, as 'tis needed,
Strength to us for every day.
For we read "God hath commanded"
Strength to be sent forth for thee,
May we trust and rest upon it,
Claim His promise, full and free.
Grace and strength He freely giveth,
And reneweth day by day;
Wisdom, mercies, lovingkindness,
All are with us on the way.
Help us, Lord, to rest upon Thee,
Proving thus Thy strength so free,
When we're weak, Thou art sufficient,
To supply abundantly.
May we trust Thee, then, more fully,
And believe Thy faithful Word,
And in quiet acquiescence,
Prove the promise of the Lord.
"The Lord is the strength of my life" (Psalm 27:1).
"I will strengthen thee" (Isaiah 41:10).
"They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength" (Isaiah 40:31).
"To them that have no might, He increaseth strength" (Isaiah 40:29).
"O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction" (Jeremiah 16:19).

Bearing His Reproach

"Because for Thy sake I have borne reproach" (Psalm 69:7).
"The reproaches of them that reproached Thee are fallen upon Me" (Psalm 69:9).
"Mine enemies reproach Me all the day" (Psalm 102:8).
"Reproach hath broken my heart" (Psalm 69:20).
"They (the apostles) rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name" (Acts 5:41).
"By faith Moses—esteemed the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt" (Hebrews 11:24-26).
"If ye be reproached for the Name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you" (1 Peter 4:14).
"Let us go forth therefore unto Him without the camp, BEARING HIS REPROACH" (Hebrews 13:13).
Are you bearing reproach for your Savior?
Are you gathered alone to His name?
Have you taken His place of rejection?
Are you sharing His suffering and shame?
His Name, though despised and rejected,
Is a Name that we honor and love,
For JESUS, disowned by man's hatred,
Is highly exalted above.
The apostles rejoiced and were happy,
When suffering shame for His Name,
They counted it joy to be worthy
To share in His suffering and shame.
And Moses, by faith, forsook Egypt,
Refusing its treasures and fame,
Chose rather to suffer affliction
And bear the reproach of His Name.
If ye be reproached for your Savior,
The Scripture says "Happy are ye,"
The Spirit of God and of glory
Is resting in blessing on thee.
O think of the anguish HE suffered,
These words of His own lips did impart;
"Mine enemies daily reproach Me"—
"Reproach, it hath broken My heart!"
Dread not the reproach that men offer,
Fear not their revilings and shame,
For Jesus is with you to comfort,
He knows, for He's suffered the same.
So, if His reproach you are feeling,
When following Jesus as Lord,
The path will grow sweeter and brighter,
And bring an eternal reward.
"Fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings" (Isaiah 51:7).
"I, even I, am He that comforteth you" (Isaiah 51:12).

Between the Circumstances and Me

"And the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: And it came BETWEEN the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; and it was a cloud and darkness to them, but it gave light by night to these: so that one came not near the other all the night" (Exodus 14:19-20).
Between the circumstance and me
A Father's loving hand
Is working all things for my good—
All moves at His command.
Between the circumstance and me
A Father's loving heart
Knows all the problems of the path,
And bears a Father's part.
Between the circumstance and me
A Father's holy will
Is over-ruling everything
With wisdom and with skill.
Behold the Savior on the cross,
In deepest agony,
Who suffered to atone for sin,
In love for you and me.
The love that held Him to that cross
To suffer and to die,
That love remains the same today,
And hears His people's cry.
The power that raised Him from the dead,
That resurrection power,
Is working for His people's good,
Each moment and each hour.
O why be burdened then with care?
The love that set thee free,
Such love is evermore between
The circumstance and thee.
And when above the circumstance,
We see God's hand and ways,
It comfort, peace and blessing gives,
And cause for endless praise.
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).

But for a Moment

"For our light affliction, which is BUT FOR A MOMENT, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory" (2 Corinthians 4:17).
"Now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honor and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love" (1 Peter 1:6-8).
"But for a moment," the trial,
Only a moment 'twill last
Soon in the glory with Jesus,
Each trial and sorrow past.
"Now for a season," if need be,
Temptation, heaviness, pain,
Proving thy faith most precious,
Gleaning eternal gain.
Faith in a Father's wisdom,
Faith in His heart of love,
Faith through the worst affliction,
Faith that looks up above.
Faith that will stand His testing,
Though it be tried with fire,
Trusting His love and goodness—
This is His heart's desire.
Testing is just for a season,
Later its purpose is known,
After the trial comes blessing.
After the cross comes the crown.
"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but GOD IS FAITHFUL, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
"It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Thy statutes" (Psalm 119:71).
"Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now I have kept Thy Word" (Psalm 119:67).

Call … I Will Answer

"Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not" (Jeremiah 33:3).
"Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me" (Psalm 50:15).
"And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear" (Isaiah 65:24).
"Your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him" (Matthew 6:8).
In God's own precious Word we find
This promise unto all;
He'll answer when they turn to Him
And on His Name will call.
His Word is just to rest in Him,
And trust His love so free;
To cast on Him your every care,
"Call,—I will answer thee."
In trial or perplexity,
In trouble or distress,
If on your Father you but call,
He will your pathway bless.
Are burdens more than you can bear?
Then is the time to call,
The One who knows your every care,
Will hear and answer all.
God asks His child to call on Him,
When troubles sore assail;
"I will deliver," is His Word,
His promise cannot fail.
The One who watches over you,
Who notes the sparrow's fall,
His ear is open to your prayer,
To hear you when you call.
And e'en before you call on Him,
He knows your every need,
He promises to hear your call,
And answer you indeed.
Then bring to Him in simple prayer,
Petitions large or small,
He'll show thee great and mighty things,
And answer when you call.
"They called upon the Lord, and He answered them" (Psalm 99:6).
"Thou shalt call, and the Lord shall answer" (Isaiah 58:9).
"He shall call upon Me, and I WILL ANSWER HIM: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him" (Psalm 91:15).

Careful for Nothing

"Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).
"Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you" (1 Peter 5:7).
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee" (Isaiah 26:3).
"Careful for nothing"—'tis the Shepherd's voice,
"Be of good cheer," "forevermore rejoice,"
Precious the truth this message doth impart,
Comforts, encourages, and cheers the heart.
"Careful for nothing"—wondrous love is shown,
In His desire expressed thus for His own;
Seeking to give them through life's pathway here
Freedom from worry, care, or doubt, or fear.
"Careful for nothing" —for His love would share
Every perplexity and every care;
"In everything," whate'er the problem be,
“Let your requests be made known" unto Me.
Bringing thy burden then in simple prayer,
Commit it all unto a Father's care;
Trusting His love, from doubt and worry cease,
For He desires to give thee perfect peace.
Peace, rest, and joy, He giveth day by day,
His perfect peace, which nought can take away:
Peace, that the world can never understand,
Peace, that comes only from a Father's hand.
What richer portion could one ever find,
Than perfect peace of heart, and rest of mind?
And 'tis His promise, He will safely keep
Throughout life's pathway, every single sheep.
"Careful for nothing," to be then content,
All He allows is for thy blessing sent;
"In everything give thanks" unto the Lord—
"All will work out for good." it is His Word.
"Careful for nothing," what is there to fear
Since He has promised to be ever near?
"Careful for nothing," what-so-e'er betide,
Peace is thy portion, with Him at thy side.
"I would have you without carefulness" (1 Corinthians 7:32).
"Peace I leave with you, MY PEACE I GIVE UNTO YOU: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27).

Come Ye Apart

"Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest awhile" (Mark 6:31).
"Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).
"Come ye apart, and rest awhile"
This is the Shepherd's voice;
"Come unto Me," ye weary souls,
And let your heart rejoice.
Oh! how our loving Shepherd knows
Our need of peace and rest;
And how we need the quietness,
Of leaning on His breast.
And to His own, He often says
"Come ye apart," not go,
For He would have us with Himself,
His presence, we would know.
"Come ye apart" from all around,
Ye weary and distressed,
"Come unto Me," the Savior says,
"And I will give you rest."
Alone with Him gives quietness,
Alone with Him gives peace,
Gives strength, and joy, and happiness,
The fears and worries cease.
The Shepherd leads to pastures green,
He leads to waters still,
"He satisfies the longing soul,"
With joy the heart doth fill.
Then may we value more and more,
These times with Thee apart,
When Thou dost to our souls reveal,
Thy wise and loving heart.
A foretaste of the joys to come,
When we shall dwell with Thee,
What joys will satisfy the heart,
Throughout eternity.
"In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength" (Isaiah 30:15).
"He leadeth me beside the still waters" (Psalm 23:2).
"He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness" (Psalm 107:9).

Comfort

"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, THE FATHER OF MERCIES, AND THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT; WHO COMFORTETH US in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are COMFORTED OF GOD" (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

The Everlasting Arms

"The eternal God is thy Refuge, and underneath are THE EVERLASTING ARMS" (Deuteronomy 33:27).
"When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee” (Isaiah 43:2).
Those mighty everlasting arms,
Invisible, but real,
How wonderful when resting there,
The grace and strength we feel!
When leaning on those mighty arms,
Beneath His shelt'ring wing,
There's comfort and abiding peace,
My heart doth gladly sing.
Though troubles may like billows rise,
And clouds obscure our view,
But resting on those mighty arms,
The Lord will see us through.
We are all weakness in ourselves,
We have no power to claim,
The peace and vict'ry only come,
By trusting Jesus Name.
The Name of Him who died for us,
His Name speaks peace and love,
And Jesus only can console,
And lead our thoughts above,
To where the many mansions are,
That He himself prepared,
And He will come to take us there,
His glories with us shared.
Oh! teach our hearts to firmly rest
Upon those mighty arms,
Though trials come, our faith to test,
With Thee we feel no harm;
Though Satan seek to buffet sore,
The soul that clings to Thee,
And leans upon those mighty arms,
Is sheltered, safe and free.
Those wondrous everlasting arms,
Oh! how we praise Thy grace!
That made provision for our needs,
That helps in every case.
Thou hast not put us in this scene
To wander here alone,
But Thou didst meet our every need,
And for our sins atone.
And from the glory, Thou dost seek
To win our hearts to Thee,
To find our comfort in Thy love,
Thy grace and strength so free.
Just meditating of Thy love,
And all Thy wondrous ways,
Which lead our hearts to worship,
And our lips to songs of praise.
Oh! may we value more and more
Those everlasting arms,
Where we may flee for safety,
When the tempter would alarm,
And may we find our refuge,
'Neath the shelter of Thy wing,
And find in Thee our pleasure,
And the joy Thy love doth bring.

The Father Seeketh Worshippers

"Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at His footstool" (Psalm 99:5).
"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth" (John 4:23-24).
"We ... worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh" (Philippians 3:3).
The Father seeketh worshippers,
His praises to impart,
And to and fro throughout the earth,
He searches every heart.
It is our hearts, the Savior wants,
Affections, and our praise;
The fruit and worship of our lips,
By singing e'er His ways.
His heart of love, would have His own
Responding to His love,
By gathering around Himself,
And praising Him above.
"Sweet is thy voice," the Savior says
To His beloved bride,
Who thus responds to worship Him,
And owns the Lamb Who died.
What peace and satisfaction comes
From worshipping the Lord!
From praising and remembering Him,
According to His Word.
From knowing all our sins forgiven,
Our conscience now is free,
For Jesus paid the debt we owed,
On Calv'ry's cruel tree.
Oh! He is worthy of thy love,
He's worthy of thy praise;
And every knee shall bow to Him,
In coming future days.
But precious 'tis, to own Him now,
The Lamb for us once slain,
Responding to His heart of love,
And worship in His Name.
Oh! thank Him then, remember Him,
And worship at His feet,
Give Him the homage that's His due,
The praises that are meet.
May the thanksgivings of our heart,
Our praises e'er ascend
To God the Father, through the blood
Of Christ, the sinner's Friend.
"My son, give Me thine heart" (Proverbs 23:26).
'Worship God" (Revelation 22:9).
"The Lord looketh on the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7).
"For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him" (2 Chronicles 16:9).
'We will remember Thy love" (Song of Solomon 1:4).

The Father's Heart

"God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved" (John 3:17).
"And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world" (1 John 4:14).
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
"Jesus said ... For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent Me" (John 6:35, 38).
O the wonderful love of the Father's heart!
That would send His Beloved Son,
To this world of hatred, and sin, and strife,
To redeem guilty sinners undone.
It was fathomless love, unspeakable,
That would so move the Father's heart,
That His only begotten Son He sent,
To take the poor sinner's part.
For we were afar off, straying, lost,
But in mercy, God sent His Son,
Has this marvelous gift of the Father's love
Your heart and affections won?
We were lost, we were rebels, gone far from God,
But Jesus for us did die;
Bore our sins on the cross, paid our debt with His blood,
To the Father, we're now brought nigh.
And Jesus so willingly left the throne.
So willingly went to the cross,
For though He was rich, for our sakes became poor,
To redeem our poor souls from loss.
It was love, matchless love held Him on the cross,
'Till for sin He did fully atone:
The nails could never have held Him there,
But 'twas love, wondrous love alone.
Yes, Jesus was willing to take our place,
He was willing to bear our sin,
This holy, spotless Lamb of God
Paid our debt, our poor hearts to win.
The way back to God is open now,
For all who receive His Son,
For all who accept Him as Savior now,
And acknowledge the work He has done.
Through ages to come, in the Father's house,
He will riches of grace impart,
But we never will fathom or comprehend,
The love of the Father's heart.
"For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9).
"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God" (1 John 3:1).
"Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ" (1 John 1:3).

A Garden Enclosed

"A GARDEN INCLOSED is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed" (Song of Solomon 4:12).
"Awake, O north wind; and come thou south; blow upon My garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my Beloved come into His garden, and eat His pleasant fruits" (Song of Solomon 4:16).
"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance" (Galatians 5:22-23).
"All my springs are in Thee" (Psalm 87:7).
Has the Lord called you out, just apart to Himself?
Shut up to His presence alone?
In a garden enclosed, you may bear precious fruit,
Which only to His eye is known.
The fruits of the Spirit, so precious to Him,
Need not active life to be known,
But in quietness, restfulness, patience, and peace,
These fruits in His presence are grown.
The love and the gentleness, goodness, joy, faith,
Which come from His great heart of love,
Can only be known, when we're resting in Him,
Occupied with the One up above.
The peace and longsuffering, temperance too,
The meekness, expressed by our Lord,
Were all shown in Jesus, when here upon earth
He walked as a man before God.
He has gone back to glory, where He's seated now,
At the Father's right hand, up above,
As our High Priest and Advocate, He intercedes,
And pleads for His own—matchless love!
Up there in the glory, He lives for us now,
The Lamb, who to this world once came;
And seeks by His spirit, to work in His own,
To bear fruit for His precious Name.
In a garden enclosed, just shut up with Himself,
Is the place for these graces to grow;
Where we're watered by rivers, and streams of His love,
And His presence continually know.
Thus, into His image, God fashions and molds,
He will finish the work He's begun,
Of transforming souls in communion with Him,
To the likeness of His blessed Son.
"For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to THE IMAGE OF HIS SON" (Romans 8:29).
“We all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into THE SAME IMAGE from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
“As we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear THE IMAGE OF THE HEAVENLY" (1 Corinthians 15:49).

Gladness Out of Affliction

"Make us glad according to the days wherein Thou hast afflicted us" (Psalm 90:15).
"He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men" (Lamentations 3:33).
"I know, O Lord, that Thy judgments are right, and that Thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me" (Psalm 119:75).
"He hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath He hid His face from him; but when he cried unto Him, He heard" (Psalm 22:24).
Can gladness come out of affliction?
Can joy out of sorrow be born?
And after a night of bereavement,
Can happiness come in the morn?
God's presence is found in affliction,
He's ready to answer the cry,
To banish the fears and the doubtings,
With "Be of good cheer, it is I."
His love for His child is unchanging,
Although it seem veiled in a cloud;
'Tis only with purpose of blessing,
Affliction is ever allowed.
God's instrument oft is affliction,
For molding and training His own,
But all through the trial and testing
His love and His mercy are shown.
Continue to trust through the trial,
To murmur not, nor be dismayed;
The Lord will not leave nor forsake thee,
He comforts with "Be not afraid."
God holdeth the key to affliction,
The end from beginning is known,
'Tis not that He willingly sends it,
But in faithfulness unto His own.
Affliction is "But for a moment,"
But after its purpose is wrought,
The blessing will go on forever,
The fruit that the trial has brought.
Yes, gladness can come through affliction,
And joy out of sorrow is born,
The night may be heavy with weeping,
But happiness comes in the morn.
"Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all" (Psalm 34:19).
"Our light affliction, which is but for a moment" (2 Corinthians 4:17).

God Is for Us

"THUS SAITH THE Lord GOD ... .BEHOLD, I AM FOR YOU" (Ezekiel 36:7, 9).
"If God be FOR US, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31).
"For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God FOR US" (Hebrews 9:24).
"When I cry unto Thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for GOD IS FOR ME" (Psalm 56:9).
"The Lord is FOR ME; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? The Lord taketh my part with them that help me" (Psalm 118:6-7).
"CHRIST ALSO HATH LOVED US, AND HATH GIVEN HIMSELF FOR US" (Ephesians 5:2).
God, who stretched forth the heavens,
Who the earth's foundation laid,
God is for us, for His people,
Should my heart then be afraid?
God is for us, who in mercy
Sent His well beloved Son,
To redeem our souls on Calv'ry,
And the work has all been done.
God is for us, O how wondrous!
He is for me, this I know:
He will take my hand and lead me
In the way that I should go.
And when Satan, the deceiver,
Seeks to tempt my rebel heart,
Christ is ready to deliver,
He is there, to take my part.
Christ has overcome the tempter,
He has vanquished every foe,
And on high He's interceding
For His own, He loveth so.
Christ is for us, He is touched with
Our infirmities and pain,
And our sufferings are measured
In the light of heaven's gain.
He assures, and reassures us,
He is for us, and He cares,
He desires our greatest blessing,
And our worship, and our prayers.
He is for us, He's redeemed us,
He is ever by our side,
He desires the sweet communion
Of His precious blood-bought bride.
O to trust Him then more fully!
In His loving heart to rest;
For the Lord who liveth for us,
Ever gives His own the best.
"Casting all your care upon Him; for it matters to Him about you" (1 Peter 5:7 another translation).
"The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me" (Hebrews 13:6).
"He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee" (Hebrews 13:5).

The Grace That Is in Christ Jesus

"Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 2:1).
"For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that ye through His poverty might be rich" (2 Corinthians 8:9).
"Unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ" (Ephesians 4:7).
"He giveth MORE GRACE" (James 4:6).
“ABUNDANCE OF GRACE" (Romans 5:17).
"MY GRACE IS SUFFICIENT FOR THEE" (2 Corinthians 12:9).
The grace that is shown in Christ Jesus,
What marvelous grace there we see!
'Tis His grace forever abounding,
Availeth for you and for me.
'Twas grace brought Him down from the glory,
'Twas grace led Him on to the cross,
'Twas grace to say "Father forgive them,"
'Twas grace to redeem us from loss.
When we were afar off and guilty,
His great heart of love would bestow
Unmerited grace to the sinner,
To save him from hell and from woe.
'Tis His grace He offers His people,
"My grace is sufficient for thee,"
"He giveth more grace" as 'tis needed,
In measure abundant and free.
In days of distress, He exhorts us,
That we would in His grace "Be strong,"
For His grace can conquer each trial,
If we unto Jesus belong.
His grace, and His love, how we need it!
To bear the reproach and the shame;
To meekly endure for our Savior,
And not to dishonor His Name.
Lord, grant us this grace in abundance,
And keep our eyes fixed upon Thee,
That we may extend unto others,
Thy grace, so abounding and free.
And help us by "looking to Jesus,"
That we would in His grace "be strong,"
For Thy blood has bought and redeemed us,
And we unto Jesus belong.
"Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ" (Ephesians 1:2).
"That in the ages to come He might show THE EXCEEDING RICHES OF HIS GRACE in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:7-9).

Happy New Year

"His compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in Him" (Lam. 3:22-24).
Throughout the New Year, and each step of the way,
May Christ be your portion, your joy and your stay.
With God's precious precepts your daily delight
To lead and encourage in paths that are right.
"The Lord is my Shepherd," how precious the word!
He'll lead in green pastures, His promise is heard.
"Beside the still waters"—what comfort and rest!
What peace there is found upon Jesus' breast.
His "goodness and mercy," each day may you prove,
His comforting presence, His infinite love!
With richest compassions, each morning anew,
May multiplied mercies be showered on you!
"My cup runneth over," His grace so abounds,
That fullest enjoyment in Jesus is found.
"The Lord is my portion," this may your soul say,
And you will be happy each step of the way.
"The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance, and of my cup" (Psalm 16:5).
"The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters" (Psalm 23:1-2).
"My cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life" (Psalm 23:5-6).

He Careth For You

"Casting all your care upon Him; for HE CARETH FOR YOU" (1 Peter 5:7).
"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee" (Psalms 55:22).
Cast all your care upon Jesus,
Who ever careth for you,
He will sustain and uphold you,
He will be faithful and true.
Jesus, our blessed Redeemer,
Jesus, our Shepherd and Guide,
Ever will bear all your burdens,
Ever will stay by your side.
Jesus knows all of your problems,
Knows all our trial and care,
He's ever ready to help us,
Ready to answer our prayer.
Oh! what a comfort in trial,
Just to lean hard on this Friend,
Trust Him for grace and deliverance,
Learning on Him to depend.
Jesus wants you to be happy,
Wants you to have peace and rest;
Cast all your care then upon Him,
Lean on His strong, loving breast.
Careth? Oh yes! Jesus careth,
His own are dear to His heart;
All His beloved whom He died for,
They are to Him set apart.
Oh! how He cares for His people,
Guards them and keeps them alway,
Wants them to share in His glory,
All through eternity's day.
Make your requests then to Jesus,
Trusting His promise so true;
Roll on the Lord all your burden,
For He is caring for you.
"Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).
"I would have you without carefulness" (1 Corinthians 7:32).

He Is Able

"What He had promised, He was able also to perform" (Romans 4:21).
"Able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think" (Ephesians 3:20).
"There is nothing too hard for Thee" (Jeremiah 32:17).
He is able, dear Christian, O fear not nor doubt,
Since thy Father who careth for thee,
Is exceedingly able to work all things out,
Whatsoever thy problem may be.
Are you tempted or tested, dear child of His love,
Let not dark circumstances alarm;
Just look up to that One in the Glory above,
Who is able His Word to perform.
O then trust Him completely, and rest in His Word,
Whatsoever the testing may be;
And remember, our faithful, omnipotent God
Can bless all of thy trials to thee.
Though foreboding the outlook, o'er difficult path,
On His limitless power you can count,
To give victory always, and foil Satan's wrath—
And all obstacles, He can surmount.
For His power that brought worlds into sway by His Word,
Opened deaf ears, caused blind eyes to see;
And the power that raised Jesus again from the dead—
'Tis that same power availeth for thee.
Gracious Father, increase our weak faith in Thy Word,
And forbid that we limit Thy power;
But with childlike simplicity rest in the Lord,
Simply trusting each moment and hour.
Ever grant us that stable, unwavering faith,
That relies on Thy promises sure;
For Thy love, we have proven, is stronger than death,
And Thy Word shall forever endure.
"And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, BELIEVING, ye shall receive" (Matthew 21:22).
"If ye shall ask anything IN MY NAME, I will do it" (John 14:14).
"Ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full" (John 16:24).

He Knoweth Our Frame

"FOR HE KNOWETH OUR FRAME; He remembereth that we are dust" (Psalm 103:14).
"Wherefore in all things it behoved Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of His people. For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted, He is able to succour them that are tempted" (Hebrews 2:17-18).
"For we have not an High Priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:15-16).
He knoweth our frame, and He careth,
Our High Priest is pleading above,
He's willing and able to help us,
He's touched in His great heart of love.
He knoweth, and He hath compassion,
He's touched with our feeling of pain;
He knows, and is ready to succour,
Because He has suffered the same.
He tells us to come to Him boldly,
He's ready to e'er intercede;
To give us the grace that is needed,
And for our infirmities plead.
He knoweth our frame, yes, how restful!
To leave in His hands all our care;
To trust Him for grace and deliverance,
To tell Him about all in prayer.
And God has a purpose in suffering,
The Glory ahead is in view;
'Tis only in love He allows it,
Preparing a blessing for you.
Lord, grant us the grace to in patience,
Endure any suffering and pain,
That Thou in Thy wisdom alloweth,
To bring to our souls greater gain.
'Tis comforting e'er to remember,
Our High Priest, the Lord over all,
Is touched by our feeling of weakness,
And hastens to answer our call.
Then trust Him, my soul, and come boldly,
And tell Him each grief by the way;
For He will in mercy sustain you,
And grace He will give for the day.
“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us" (Romans 8:18).
“Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator" (1 Peter 4:19).
“My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me" (2 Corinthians 12:9).

He Tasted Death for Me

"Jesus...by the grace of God, should taste death for every man" (Hebrews 2:9).
"Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins" (1 John 4:10).
"The Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me" (Galatians 2:20).
"God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8).
The Son of God a ransom came
Down from His throne on high,
Into this world of sin and shame
For us to bleed and die.
We read the Father sent the Son
To die, on Calv'ry's tree;
"He tasted death for every man,"
He tasted death for me.
The wrath that was my portion, Lord,
Was suffered all by Thee,
When tasting death for every man—
When tasting death for me.
"'Tis finished," all on Calv'ry's cross,
Redemption's work is done;
"No condemnation" evermore,
Through God's beloved Son.
O wondrous love and matchless grace
That sets the sinner free;
"The Son of God who loved me so—
He gave Himself for me."
May love like this unto Thine own
Our hearts and voices raise,
Unto the Father and the Son
Our everlasting praise.
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God" (1 Peter 3:18).
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).
"For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him" (2 Corinthians 5:21).
"For the wages of sin is death; but THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ our Lord" (Romans 6:23).

He Times Everything Right

"My times are in Thy hand" (Psalm 31:15).
"To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).
"Is there not an appointed time to man upon earth?" (Job 7:1).
"His days are determined, the number of his months are with Thee, Thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass" (Job 14:5).
The Lord times every circumstance
That comes across our way,
To serve the purpose of His love,
To teach us day by day.
He times our joys and sorrows,
Every one is in His hand,
To work His matchless blessing,
In the pattern He has planned.
"There is a time for everything,"
His precious Word declares;
A time to sow, a time to reap,
A time to pluck up tares.
A time to act upon His Word,
A time to rest and wait;
Just leaving all things with the Lord,
Whose time is never late.
How precious that our times are ever
In our Father's hand,
Who knows and understands the way,
And has our pathway planned.
Our restless hearts would e'er make haste,
Devising our own way;
But better 'tis to wait on Him,
And hear what He would say.
He knows the path, He knows the way,
Beginning unto end;
Then can we not abide His time?
And trust this matchless Friend?
The Lord who counts my every step,
Who numbers every hair,
Knows every detail of my life,
And times them all with care.
Oh! blessed 'tis that Jesus knows
Each step along the way,
For He will take us by the hand,
And lead us every day.
"As for God, His way is perfect" (Psalm 18:30).

His Compassions Fail Not

"HIS COMPASSIONS FAIL NOT. They are new every morning: great is Thy faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22-23).
"Thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth" (Psalm 86:15).
"The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion" (Psalm 145:8).
New every morning, those wondrous compassions,
Falt'ring not, failing not, fresh every day;
Rich and exhaustless, His goodness and mercies,
Boundless supplies for the whole pilgrim way.
Blessed Lord Jesus, we praise and adore Thee,
Worship and magnify Thy worthy Name,
For all Thy mercies and grace so abounding,
For all Thy goodness forever the same.
All through the past, we can see Thy compassions,
Daily we see them each morning anew,
Thus Thou hast promised fore'er to continue,
All through our life, Thy compassions to strew.
Limitless mercies forever abounding,
Grace and compassions each morning we see;
Bought by Him, loved by Him, never forgotten,
Kept by His goodness and mercy so free.
Oh! what a comfort it is when relying
On His compassions which never can fail;
What perfect peace it e'er gives to His people,
Trusting His mercies, whatever assail.
Lord, we would rest in Thy goodness unfailing,
Ever relying upon Thy great love;
Trust Thee each morning for Thy new compassions,
Until we meet Thee in Glory above.
"He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity" (Psalm 78:38).
"It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because HIS COMPASSIONS FAIL NOT" (Lamentations 3:22).
"He is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous" (Psalm 112:4).

Hold Fast

"HOLD FAST till I come" (Revelation 2:25).
"Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown" (Revelation 3:11).
"Be watchful, and strengthen the things that remain" (Revelation 3:2).
"For thou hast a little strength, and hast kept My Word, and hast not denied My Name" (Revelation 3:8).
The day is dark, and midnight is approaching,
But soon the dawn, and Christ will come again:
Oh! may we watch for Him, and e'er remember
His love for us, may it not speak in vain.
The church for which He died is in confusion,
Is split and scattered wide by failing men,
But still, God sees it only in perfection,
"There is one body," true, e'en now, as then.
And God is undisturbed by all this chaos,
His purposes He's working just the same;
And in this day of ruin and declension,
He's gathering a people for His Name.
As He looks down on all the vast profession,
He knows each heart that truly loves His name,
And in His sight, they precious are, and spotless,
Because their trust is placed in God's own Lamb.
In this last day, of weakness and declension,
When coldness and indifference abound,
May we "Hold Fast" to God's most precious precepts,
May we, with those that love His Name, be found.
Rememb'ring Him, as He in love requested,
"Remember Me, until I come again"
A simple service, yet with fullest meaning,
Oh! may our hearts respond in worship then.
And may our hearts beat true to Christ our Savior,
To keep His Word, and not deny His Name,
To take our place "Outside the camp" with Jesus,
Bear His reproach, His suffering and shame.
For though today, He is by man rejected,
The day is coming, when that Name we love,
Above all names is honored and exalted,
And we shall dwell with Him, in heaven above.
"Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a Name which is above every name: That at the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Philippians 2:9-11).
"Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon His Name" (Malachi 3:16).

I Know Their Sorrows

"And the Lord said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people . . . for I know their sorrows; and I am come down to deliver them" (Exodus 3:7-8).
"Surely He hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows" (Isaiah 53:4).
"A Man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief" (Isaiah 53:3).
Jesus knows our sorrows,
Knows them every one,
And He will deliver
When God's will is done.
Yes, He knows the sorrow,
He allows it, too,
But He feels the suffering
That His child goes through.
Though in His great wisdom
Grief may needful be,
Still in His compassion
He will comfort thee.
And He comes to comfort
With this word of cheer:
"It is I, beloved,
Doubt not, neither fear."
Christ, "the Man of sorrows,"
Sees your sorrow, too,
And He will deliver,
For "He careth for you."
Yes, the Man of Sorrows,
Knows and shares your grief,
He alone can comfort,
He will give relief.
It is not His pleasure,
Willingly to grieve,
His beloved children
Who His love receive.
But the only purpose
Of His loving Hand,
Is for greater blessing
Than we understand.
To increase our knowledge
Of His heart of love,
To draw our affections
To the things above.
O to trust through sorrow,
Trust Him, and be still,
That His loving purpose
He may then fulfill.
"Though He cause grief, yet will He have compassion according to the multitude of His mercies. For He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men" (Lamentations 3:32-33).
"I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor" (Psalm 140:12).

I Will Be With Thee: I Will Not Fail Thee

"I WILL BE WITH THEE: I WILL NOT FAIL THEE NOR FORSAKE THEE" (Joshua 1:5).
"Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest" (Joshua 1:9).
It is the Lord who speaks these words,
"I will be with thee," Child,
In mountain-top experiences,
Or in the desert wild:
"I will not fail thee, nor forsake,"
His love would tell His own,
And every moment of the way,
His presence He makes known.
"I will be with thee," "Peace, be still,"
The waves and billows cease,
"I will be with thee," Oh! what joy,
His presence giveth peace!
We only know His presence, as
We walk the path with Him,
Depending on Him, day by day,
May faith be never dim!
"Be strong and of good courage," then,
The Lord is on thy side,
In heav'n He intercedes for you,
The One who for you died;
With nail pierced hands, He pleads His blood,
The remedy for sin,
And all who trust His precious blood,
Have perfect peace within.
His love is just the same today,
As when on Calvary,
He yielded up His life to God,
To set the sinner free:
In every circumstance we meet,
We're sheltered by that love,
We're shielded and drawn closer, to
The heart of Him above.
Oh! then, here in the wilderness,
Are lessons bright to learn,
Of countless mercies day by day,
As we the path sojourn;
Compassions every morning, from
His gracious heart of love,
And mercies without ceasing,
Every moment we will prove.
Of His faithfulness, His goodness,
And His kindness let us sing,
And every day His praises tell,
Our Shepherd, Priest, and King,
May we exalt Him, and extol
The Name of Him on high,
For Jesus loves the same today,
As when He came to die.
Oh! may we value every time
The Lord says "Come apart"
To learn more of His matchless grace,
His ever loving heart;
While sitting in His presence
Drink in riches of His grace,
Enjoying now this portion, 'till
We see Him face to face.

I Will Not Leave You Comfortless

"I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU COMFORTLESS: for I will come to you" (John 14:18).
"Blessed are they that mourn, for THEY SHALL BE COMFORTED" (Matthew 5:4).
"I will not leave you comfortless,
For I will come to you;"
The Lord of Glory speaks these words—
His promises are true.
He sorrows with His suffering child,
He weeps with those that weep;
He comforts and sustaineth them,
Their footsteps He doth keep.
"He doth not willingly afflict,"
Nor grieve one precious soul;
His hand of love is over all,
When sorrow's billows roll.
With countless mercies day by day,
Compassions ever new,
His own are comforted and kept,
Their strength He doth renew.
"1 will not leave you comfortless,"
Oh! What a precious Word!
The God of Comfort dries our tears,
His promises we've heard.
He comforteth all those that mourn,
He heals the broken heart;
He bindeth up their griefs and wounds,
His strength He doth impart.
Oh Blessed Lord, we need Thy strength,
Thy grace for every day;
We need Thy strong sustaining arm,
To keep us all the way.
We thank Thee for Thy presence,
For Thy promises so true,
"I will not leave you comfortless,
For I will come to you."
"I, even I, am He that comforteth you" (Isaiah 51:12).
"As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you" (Isaiah 66:13).
"God—comforteth those that are cast down" (2 Corinthians 7:6).
"He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds" (Psalm 147:3).

In the Potter's Hand

"O Lord, Thou art our Father; we are the clay, and Thou our potter; and we all are the work of Thy hand" (Isaiah 64:8).
"Shall the clay say to Him that fashioneth it, What makest Thou?" (Isaiah 45:9).
"Cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in Mine hand" (Jeremiah 18:6).
"Hath not the potter power over the clay?" (Romans 9:21).
The potter has the power,
The knowledge, and the skill,
To fashion every vessel
According to his will.
The pattern and the purpose
Of every vessel planned,
Its usefulness and beauty
Are in the potter's hand.
The clay makes no decision,
Has no will of its own,
But yielded to the potter,
His pattern is made known.
And thus the Master Potter
Our service has outlined;
He asks us to be yielded
Unto His Will and Mind.
His purpose to acknowledge,
To listen to His voice,
To let Him plan our pathway,
According to His choice.
A vessel marred and broken,
We may not understand,
But all can be committed
Unto the Potter's hand.
Our Father's way is perfect,
His thought toward us is love;
He's fashioning and molding,
For life with Him above.
To trust the Heavenly Potter.
And let Him mold the clay.
Brings joy, and peace, and blessing,
And happiness alway.
"For IT IS GOD WHICH WORKETH IN YOU both to will and to do of HIS good pleasure" (Philippians 2:13).

Joy Cometh in the Morning

"Weeping may endure for the night, but JOY COMETH IN THE MORNING" (Psalm 30:5).
"He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men" (Lamentations 3:33).
"I know their sorrows; and I am come down to deliver them" (Exodus 3:7-8).
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes" (Revelation 21:4).
There's not a moment in this world below,
As on through life the teeming millions go
But that some soul, while traveling down the years,
Is called aside, and somehow moved to tears.
Perhaps a loved one has been called away,
Or pain, or sickness grip some soul today,
Or feelings hurt, or cares, or monster fears,
Today has caused some to shed bitter tears.
But as the world moves on, there's One who knows
The meaning and the cause of all life's woes,
Who from above looks down in every heart,
And knows just why the tear-drops needs must start.
Nor is it with a cold and heartless scan,
He fathoms to the heart of every man—
Ah! no, the One who watches from above,
With tender eye and kind—His Name is Love.
"He doth not willingly afflict" one soul,
If by some easier means they'd reach the goal;
He knows the end, and in His wise design,
He purposes the silver to refine.
His heart's desire is that we better know
That heart of love which brought Him down below,
And led Him as a lamb to Calv'ry's cross,
To suffer, and redeem our souls from loss.
While treading here two-thousand years ago,
His heart was touched at others' tears and woe,
And "Jesus wept" for others' grief, they say—
Think you that Heart of Love is changed today?
Ah! no, unaltered is that love so free,
Which flows forever unto you and me;
Unchanging is that rich, exhaustless grace,
Which led Him once to take the sinner's place.
He sorrows still at others' tears that fall—
He knows their grief, the purpose of it all;
And with compassion, He would seek just now
To share the sorrow that He must allow.
O come to Him in sorrow, and you'll find
A sympathy that's infinitely kind;
A love that naught can evermore destroy—
That longs to give you in your sorrow—joy.
"Ye now therefore have sorrow: but—your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you" (John 16:22).

The Joy of Worship

"They worshipped Him, and returned ... with great joy, praising and blessing God" (Luke 24:52-53).
"In Thy presence is fulness of joy" (Psalm 16:11).
"They worshiped — and returned with joy,"
'Tis evermore the same;
There's joy unspeakable for those
Who bow before His Name.
Who take a little time apart
To sit at Jesus' feet,
He fills their hungry souls with joy
And happiness complete.
He gives a great exceeding joy,
A calm and peaceful mind;
A deep and everlasting joy
With tranquil rest combined.
Love moved Him to lay down His life
A ransom in our stead;
For us, He bore the wrath of God,
For us, His blood was shed.
To praise Him for that finished work,
And worship Him, 'tis meet,
With thankful and adoring hearts
To sit at Jesus' feet.
To then, remember Him in death,
And ponder that great love,
Which led Him down to Calvary
From Glory bright above.
The Father seeketh worshipers
To take some time apart,
And magnify that worthy Name
So precious to His heart.
Who answers to His heart's desire
"This do remember Me,"
Will sweetest joy of worship know
And ne'er the loser be.
"They worshipped — and returned with joy,"
How true it is today—
In worship, there's exceeding joy
That nought can take away.

Joyful in Thee

"My soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in His salvation" (Psalm 35:9).
"I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with jewels" (Isaiah 61:10).
"But let all those that put their trust in Thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because Thou defendest them: let them also that love Thy Name be JOYFUL IN THEE" (Psalm 5:11).
"Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice" (Philippians 4:4).
"My heart rejoiceth in the Lord" (1 Samuel 2:1).
"The joy of the Lord is your strength" (Nehemiah 8:10).
Enjoying Thee, O blessed Lord,
What peace and joy Thou dost afford!
Unchanging grace, in Thee I find,
Such comfort and solace, peace of mind.
My soul shall ever joyful be,
In Jesus my Lord, who died for me;
Who ever lives for me on high,
Whose presence, we know, is ever nigh.
Oh! what a theme for endless praise!
Thy goodness, mercies, all Thy ways:
Thy grace and lovingkindness shown,
Thy love unto us made daily known.
Thy faithfulness from day to day,
Thy presence and Thy power alway,
To safely shield by Thy strong arm,
To shelter and protect from harm.
And every morning, how we see,
Thy new compassions, full and free—
We'll praise Thy faithfulness at night,
For leading us in the way aright.
"My soul shall be joyful in the Lord,"
Rejoicing always in His Word,
His promises sure, which cannot fail,
But ever for you, for me avail.
Nought else could give such peace of heart,
Nought else could grace and strength impart,
But simply relying on Thy Word,
And greatly rejoicing in the Lord.
"Rejoice, and then again Rejoice,"
This is our blessed Shepherd's voice,
The voice of our unfailing Friend,
Who will be with us to the end.
"Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation" (Habakkuk 3:18).
“Because Thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of Thy wings will I rejoice" (Psalm 63:7).
"My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto Thee; and my soul, which Thou hast redeemed" (Psalm 71:23).
"Your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you" (John 16:22).

Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

"LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED: ye believe in God, believe also in Me" (John 14:1).
"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27).
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).
This motto is hung on the wall near my bed,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
It always brings comfort and peace when it's read,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
Whatever the problem that weighs on one's mind,
There's always such comfort in God's Word, we find,
And these are the words Jesus uttered so kind,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
When waking, I glance at that text on the wall,
"Let not your heart be troubled,"
Reminding me Jesus is Lord over all,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
He knows every problem, He knows every care,
Our burdens He's promised to willingly bear,
He's ready to help, anytime, anywhere,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
How often I look at that text on the wall,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
Assuring me Jesus will hear when we call,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
The One who redeemed me on Calvary's tree,
For my sins paid the ransom, and now I am free,
That One from the glory still says unto me,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
Dear Christian, when trial or testing arise,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
The Savior is watching His own from the skies,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
The trial will never His mercies exceed,
His grace is sufficient, whatever the need,
Our High Priest in glory doth e'er intercede,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
We know He is working all things for our good,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
And even when by us, they're not understood,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
Just look unto Jesus, and trust in the Lord,
There never hath failed His good promise or Word,
Remember, for Him, there is nothing too hard,
"Let not your heart be troubled."
"They cried unto the Lord in their trouble, and He delivered them out of their distresses" (Psalm 107:6).
"Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me" (Psalm 50:15).

The Lord Shall Fight For You

"The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace" (Exodus 14:14).
"Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord" (Exodus 14:13).
"Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord ... fear not nor be dismayed ... for the Lord will be with you" (2 Chronicles 20:17).
"With us is the Lord our God, to help us, and to fight our battles" (2 Chronicles 32:8).
"In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength" (Isaiah 30:15).
"Their strength is to sit still" (Isaiah 30:7).
"The Lord shall fight for you,
And ye shall hold your peace,"
He will your battles undertake,
Bid fears and worries cease.
He will your cause defend,
The faithful, strong and true,
Will with your enemies contend,
Your God shall fight for you.
Then confidently wait,
Your strength is to "sit still,"
Commit your cause into His hand,
And trust His sovereign will.
What heritage is this!
For children of the Lord;
That God their battles will assume,
And be their sure reward.
"The Lord shall fight for you,"
And shield from every harm,
Though adversary powers arise,
They need not cause alarm.
"Ye shall not need to fight,"
There is no need to fear,
"Stand still" and wait upon the Lord,
Whose help is ever near.
"The Lord shall fight for you,"
Just rest, and trust, and wait,
Your enemies He will subdue,
He will not be too late.
What quietness and peace,
This gives unto the heart,
When victory is in His hands,
The fears and doubts depart.
"When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him" (Isaiah 59:19).
"For the Lord your God, He it is that fighteth for you, as He hath promised you" (Joshua 23:10).

The Lord Will Deliver

"I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears" (Psalm 34:4).
"The righteous cry, and the Lord heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles" (Psalm 34:17).
"Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all" (Psalm 34:19).
"He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him" (Psalm 91:15).
"Call upon Me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify Me" (Psalm 50:15).
"God is our refuge and strength, A VERY PRESENT HELP IN TROUBLE" (Psalm 46:1).
The Lord will deliver, whatever the trial,
Deliver from troubles, afflictions, and fears;
He promises ever to be with His people,
His Presence encourages, comforts, and cheers.
He knows every trial, He knows every trouble,
He wants us to count on Him, on Him to call;
For "I will be with him in trouble" He offers,
Cast on Him your burdens, He beareth them all.
He wants us to dwell in the light of His presence,
He wants us to live in the joy of His love;
He wants us to know He is e'er interceding,
And living for us in the glory above.
Then look unto Him, who is willing and able
To ever deliver, and banish all fear;
In fears, and afflictions, and all of our troubles,
We have His assurance, He ever is near.
He promises ever to hear and deliver,
He promises all things will work for our good;
Then may we in faith cast on Him every burden,
And rest in His wisdom and love, as we should.
Oh! bless Him and praise Him, whatever the pathway,
"I will bless the Lord at all times," David said;
For He orders all, and His judgments are perfect,
So trust in His love, without doubting and dread.
Then praise Him forever, His ways are all perfect,
And wait on His wisdom to answer your call:
He times everything with the utmost precision,
This One, who notes even the small sparrow's fall.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His Purpose" (Romans 8:28).
"As for God, His way is perfect" (Psalm 18:30).
"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee" (Psalm 55:22).
''Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to COMFORT THEM WHICH ARE IN ANY TROUBLE, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are COMFORTED OF GOD" (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

Love in Chastening

"As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten" (Revelation 3:19).
"Whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby" (Hebrews 12:6-7,11).
"Blessed is the man whom Thou chastenest, O Lord, and teachest him out of Thy law" (Psalm 94:12).
"Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty" (Job 5:17).
When chastening comes to God's children,
It is not sent in wrath from above;
His purpose is always for blessing,
The motive is ever His love.
For 'tis "Whom the Lord loveth, He chastens"
As a father chastises his son,
And we need His reproof and correction,
Until life upon earth here is done.
'Tis in wisdom He deals with His children
And in love He puts faith to the test;
He marks out the time for the trial—
For He knows what is needful and best.
Through chastening, scourging, correction
This ever the comfort may be;
'Tis through love He allows the affliction—
He purposes blessing for thee.
So if we endure the chastisement,
And are exercised as to His mind,
The fruit of the trial is blessing,
And joy after sorrow we'll find.
The trials of faith are most needful,
And are sent from a wise, loving hand,
To work in the lives of His children
The eternal purpose He's planned.
May faith soar above the affliction,
With patience, endurance, and trust
In the heart of a merciful Father,
Who ever is righteous and just.
For He says, when He chastens His children,
It is never in wrath on His part,
But with wisdom and infinite mercy,
'Tis through love, and compassion of heart.
“I know, O Lord, that Thy judgments are right, and that Thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me" (Psalm 119:75).
“Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more" (Nahum 1:12).

Love's Response

"We will be glad and rejoice in Thee, we will remember Thy love more than wine" (Song of Solomon 1:4).
"This do in remembrance of Me" (Luke 22:19).
"The love of Christ constraineth us" (2 Cor. 5:14).
"He brought me to the banqueting house, and His banner over me was love" (Song of Solomon 2:4).
Christian, dost thou love another—
Is there one of whom thou'rt fond?
What could give thee greater joy then,
Than to have that one respond?
Christian, Jesus loves thee dearly,
With a love that feared no cost,
And He came from brightest glory
To redeem thy soul once lost.
Thy salvation He accomplished;
It is finished — judgment past,
Mighty work of love's own planning,
Through eternity shall last.
Wondrous love that sought and found us
Lost, undone, with stubborn will!
Love that blots out all transgressions
Seeks with joy our hearts to fill.
Jesus asked to be remembered,
'Tis a small thing on our part
To comply with His petition,
But it cheers His loving heart.
Broken bread tells out the story
Of His death on Calv'ry's tree
How the Son of God from glory
"Loved and gave Himself for me."
And the cup speaks peace, forever
Through the merits of His blood
Freely shed for sins' remission,
Reconciling us to God.
He desires to be remembered.
Should such love unanswered be
When the Lord of earth and heaven
Said "This do, remember Me?"
Gladly should we seek to please Him,
To respond to His request,
Render to Him praise and worship
At His table, be His guest.
"With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer" (Luke 22:15).

Near to Himself

"Come near to me" (Genesis 45:4).
"Let us draw near" (Hebrews 10:22).
"But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are MADE NIGH, by the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:13).
"Come near to Me," what words of sweetness these;
Jesus invites, His loving heart to please;
"Come unto Me"—come boldly, without fear.
'Tis His delight to have His people near.
We who were once afar off, straying, lost,
Jesus redeemed from sin at such a cost!
With His own blood, He dearly bought His bride,
To bring her near—to have her at His side,
Love was the source of that eternal plan,
That brought Him down in blessing unto man;
'Twas matchless love, and rich, exhaustless grace,
Led Him to come and take the sinner's place.
Clothed in His robe of righteousness, we own,
In the Beloved, complete, through grace alone;
Our standing now before the throne on High,
Washed in His blood, redeemed, we are made nigh.
"Let us draw near," is now by grace our right,
Near to that One in whom our souls delight;
Singing the praises of the Lamb who died—
Near to His loving heart would we abide.
Near to Himself, what comfort, solace, rest!
Fellowship sweet in leaning on His breast;
Near to Himself, there's endless peace and joy,
Peace that the world can nevermore destroy.
Near to Himself, our precious portion now,
Our hearts to Him in praise and worship bow:
Through endless ages near His loving heart,
Sharing His glory soon will be our part.
"Blessed is the man whom Thou choosest, and causest to approach unto Thee, that he may dwell in Thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of Thy house, even of Thy holy temple" (Psalm 65:4).
"A people near unto Him" (Psalm 148:14).

No Spot in Thee

"Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee" (Song of Solomon 4:7).
"I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for He hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, He hath covered me with the robe of righteousness" (Isaiah 61:10).
"He hath made us accepted in the Beloved" (Ephesians 1:6).
Can it be true, O blessed Lord,
These words are meant for me?
Which written in Thy word, I find,
"There is no spot in thee."
For me, a sinner, doomed for hell,
But pardoned, and set free;
These words of grace to me dost tell
"There is no spot in thee."
Thy Word condemns me, I confess,
For "all have sinned," I read:
"Sin's wages, too, are death," unless
Unto Thy grace I heed.
But God's gift is eternal life
Through Jesus Christ our Lord:
His finished work extends to all
Who trust His precious Word.
At Calvary, the Son of God
Laid down His life for me;
My soul rejoices in the Lamb
Who died to set me free.
When called to face Him now, I know,
There can no sin be found;
His blood has cleansed me white as snow,
His grace did so abound.
With His own robe of righteousness,
In love, He's covered me;
'Tis through His merit, He can say
"There is no spot in thee."
Yes, it is true, through wondrous grace,
These words apply to me,
And with such love I'll have a place
Through all Eternity.
"Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that HE LOVED US, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins ... .The Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world" (1 John 4:10, 14).
"He that believeth on the Son HATH EVERLASTING LIFE" (John 3:36).

Nothing Too Hard

"Is anything too hard for the Lord?" (Genesis 18:14).
"Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there anything too hard for Me?" (Jeremiah 32:27).
"Ah Lord God! Behold Thou hast made the heaven and earth by Thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for Thee" (Jeremiah 32:17).
Do you feel that your prayers and petitions
Which daily you bring to the Lord,
Are beyond His great power of fulfillment,
That you're asking that which is too hard?
Then list to His own Word of promise,
Creator of heaven and all,
"There is nothing too hard" for thy Maker—
His ear is awaiting your call.
"The world He established by wisdom,"
"He stretched forth the heavens above,"
"The dust of the earth He has measured,"
But nothing can measure His love.
"He hangeth the earth upon nothing,"
"He gave to the sea His decree;"
"The mountains are weighed in a balance,"
"He numbers the sands of the sea."
"He telleth the stars all by number,"
"He notes every sparrow that falls,"
"The hairs of thy head are all numbered,"
And thou art more precious than all.
"His wisdom is past understanding,"
"His ways are beyond finding out,"
With mercy and grace that's unbounded,
Thy pathway is compassed about.
Then call on His Name in dependence,
And cast on the Lord every care,
He promises ever to answer—
His joy is to hear His child's prayer.
Whatever the burden or problem,
With confidence, trust in the Lord,
Omnipotence never will fail thee,
And for Him "there is nothing too hard."
"With God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26).
"According to your faith be it unto you" (Matthew 9:29).
"If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and NOTHING SHALL BE IMPOSSIBLE UNTO YOU" (Matthew 17:20).

Outside the Camp

"The Lord said unto Moses—Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee" (Exodus 32:33-34).
"And Moses took the tabernacle, and pitched it WITHOUT THE CAMP, AFAR OFF FROM THE CAMP, and called it the Tabernacle of the congregation. And it came to pass, that EVERY ONE WHICH SOUGHT THE Lord went out unto the Tabernacle of the congregation, which was WITHOUT THE CAMP" (Exodus 33:7).
"LET US GO FORTH THEREFORE UNTO HIM, WITHOUT THE CAMP, bearing His reproach" (Hebrews 13:13).
Outside the camp with Jesus,
Oh, blessed, precious place,
Where He has called us to Himself
Through wondrous, matchless grace.
Apart from all that would distract,
Would hinder or would dim,
The fullness of communion sweet,
And fellowship with Him.
Outside the camp with Jesus,
'Tis He who makes the call
To His beloved far and wide,
To own Him Lord of all.
Outside the camp, where nothing else
But Jesus fills the heart,
Where He, the center of our thought,
Doth peace and joy impart,
Outside the camp with Jesus
Just gathered to His Name,
Where He Himself is in the midst
Forevermore the same.
The Holy Spirit leads the way
When giv'n His rightful place,
To take the precious things of Christ,
Revealing matchless grace.
Outside the camp with Jesus,
'Tis Jesus fills our gaze
When He's the object of our thought,
Our theme of endless praise.
'Tis such a peaceful, precious place,
A blessed portion this,
A foretaste of the joys to come,
In Heav'n's eternal bliss.
I take my place, Lord Jesus,
Outside the camp with Thee,
Apart from all that interferes,
From worldly service free.
Just gathered round the Lord Himself,
Remembering Thy love,
Enjoying there Thy presence
Till we meet Thee Lord, above.
“For where two or three are gathered together IN MY NAME, there am I in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20).

Praise

"Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!" (Psalm 107:8, 15, 21, 31).
"I will praise Thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and will glorify Thy Name forevermore" (Psalm 86:12).
"I will praise the Name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs" (Psalm 69:30-31).
"Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me" (Psalm 50:23).
"By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His Name" (Hebrews 13:15).
Praises to the Savior give,
He who died that we might live,
For His love, so great, so free,
Praise His Name eternally.
When our hearts were steeped in sin,
Vile and wretched were within,
Jesus left the throne above,
Came to show the Father's love.
Oh how wondrous was His grace!
He who took the sinner's place,
Jesus offered "Lo, I come,"
All to bear the sinner home.
Jesus died on Calv'ry's tree,
There to set the sinner free,
All who on His Name believe,
Everlasting life receive.
What a debt to Him we owe!
Gladly may our praises flow,
Let our cheerful voices raise,
Loud thanksgivings, songs of praise.
Praise the Father and the Son,
That redemption's work is done,
Magnify that precious Name,
Christ, the Lamb of God, who came.
Worthy is the Lamb once slain,
Praise and magnify His Name,
Laud and honor may we bring,
To our Savior, Priest and King.
Glory unto Jesus be,
He who died to set us free,
Let us worship and adore,
Praise His Name forevermore.
"Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing" (Revelation 5:12).
"From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's Name is to be praised" (Psalm 113:3).
"It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto Thy Name, O most High: To shew forth Thy lovingkindness in the morning, and Thy faithfulness every night" (Psalm 92:1-2).

Remembrance of Thee

"This do in remembrance of Me" (Luke 22:19).
"For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death till He come" (1 Corinthians 11:26).
"The desire of our soul is to Thy Name, and to the REMEMBRANCE OF THEE" (Isaiah 26:8).
What mocking, scourging, taunting, blessed Savior,
Was Thine to bear on Calv'ry's cross alone!
Thou knewest well the wrath that would befall Thee,
When Thou didst say to God, "Thy will be done."
There is no other love like Thine, Lord Jesus,
None that we've ever read of, heard, or known—
No one but Thee, amidst such jeers and scorning,
To the revilers, could such love have shown.
Thou couldst have summoned angels, at Thy bidding,
Legions to smite the jeering enemy;
But no! Thy wondrous love for rebel sinners
Chose to lay down Thy life to set them free.
Thou couldst have turned back then in the garden,
And saved Thyself from going to the cross;
O! but Thy love, all other loves surpassing,
Chose to save the others than Thyself, from loss.
There on the cross, alone, despised, rejected,
Maker of heaven and earth, all powerful One;
Thou didst submit to wrath and cruel hatred,
So that God's will, redemption's work was done.
On that same night, blest Lord, of Thy betrayal,
E'er Thou didst go back to Thy throne above,
Thy thought for us, didst institute the supper
Feast of remembrance of Thy matchless love.
The broken bread, which Thou didst set before us,
Type of Thy body, bruised, nailed to a tree;
Tells to our hearts afresh love's wondrous story—
"The Son of God laid down His life for me."
Then in the cup, we clearly see betokened
"The blood of Christ which cleanseth from all sin,"
Reminds us oft of Thy complete atonement—
Peace to our conscience gives, and joy within.
How could we e'er forget Thy love, Lord Jesus!
Keep our hearts stirred to e'er remember Thee,
When we recall Thine agony and passion,
Meekly endured for sinners such as we.
O help us, Lord, Thy love to keep before us,
Keep our hearts occupied with Thee alone;
With warm desire to Thy great love responding,
Ever rememb'ring Thee till Thou shalt come.
"We will remember Thy love" (Song of Solomon 1:4).

The Shepherd's Voice

"He calleth His own sheep by name, and leadeth them out" (John 10:3).
"The sheep follow Him: for they know His voice. And a stranger will they not follow ... for they know not the voice of strangers" (John 10:4-5).
"I am the good Shepherd, and know My sheep ... and I lay down My life for the sheep" (John 10:14-15).
"My sheep hear my voice, and I KNOW THEM, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand" (John 10:27-28).
The Shepherd's voice, and a willing heart,
Is all that we need to know;
To hear His call, and obey His Word,
And follow as we should go.
The Shepherd's voice is a loving voice,
His sheep are His great delight;
His portion and joy in His people He finds,
And precious they are in His sight.
The voice of our Shepherd one day said,
"This do, in remembrance of Me,"
Just before He was nailed to that cruel cross,
Where He suffered such agony.
He suffered such anguish on Calv'ry's cross,
When our sins were upon Him laid;
When God's righteous judgment for sin He bore,
And atonement for us He made.
He would gather us ever around Himself,
And remind our hearts of His love;
And assure our souls that our sins are gone,
And He's living for us above.
"Peace be unto you," are His words to us,
He would ever give peace and rest
To His blood-bought sheep, whom He loveth so,
He desires that they lean on His breast.
Then may we remember our Shepherd's love,
May we thank Him for all He has done,
And praise and adore His most precious Name,
For the vict'ry for us, He has won.
"If any man will do His will, He shall know of the doctrine" (John 7:17).
"He shall feed His flock like a shepherd: He shall gather the lambs with His arm, and carry them in His bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young" (Isaiah 40:11).

Shiloh

"Tell me, O Thou whom my soul loveth, where Thou feedest, where Thou makest Thy flock to rest at noon" (Song of Solomon 1:7).
"The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until SHILOH come, and UNTO HIM shall the gathering of the people be" (Genesis 49:10).
"For where two or three are gathered together IN MY NAME, there am I in the midst of them" (Matthew 18:20).
O Savior mine, who shed Thy blood for me,
Show me the place, where I may worship Thee:
'Midst turmoil and confusion all around,
The Place, where Thine own presence may be found.
We note in Israel's history, Blessed Lord,
There was a place according to Thy Word;
In Shiloh, Thou did'st choose to place Thy Name,
And Israel yearly up to Shiloh came.
Dost Thou maintain a place, Blest Lord, today,
'Midst ruin and declension and decay,
Where to Thy people Thou dost still draw near,
And meet with them, their feeble praise to hear?
To all who ask "Where wilt Thou?" of their Lord,
He'll guidance give, according to His Word:
To willing hearts He says “Come unto Me,”
To Shiloh, place of sweet tranquility.
For Shiloh is our Lord, and in His Name,
If gathered, we will find Him still the same:
Such condescending grace in this, we see,
The Lord of Glory meets with "two or three."
O precious place of peacefulness and rest!
Those gathered thus with Christ, how richly blest!
Where He alone is worshipped and adored,
The worthy One—our risen, blessed Lord.
Pre-eminent is He, God's only Son,
The altogether pure and lovely One;
Exalt Him then—let hearts and voices raise
Their songs to Him, in worship and in praise.

Stay Now Thine Hand

"The Lord beheld—and said—It is enough, stay now thine hand" (1 Chronicles 21:15).
"And the Lord said—Upon himself put not forth thine hand" (Job 1:12).
"God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Dear child of God, by sorrow crushed,
May this your comfort be;
The Lord is ruling over all—
He loves and cares for thee.
Though Satan seeks to buffet sore,
He bows at God's command;
He cannot touch nor harm thee when
God says, "Stay now thine hand."
The One who shed His precious blood
To set the sinner free;
With that same matchless love untold
Is watching over thee.
The Lord who stretched the heavens forth
The earth's foundation laid—
With that same power He guards His child
And says "Be not afraid."
For "God is faithful"—blessed Word!
Temptation, fear, or snare,
He never will allow one test
Above that ye can bear.
The trial and testing He allows,
By love and wisdom planned—
When His own purpose is fulfilled
He speaks—"Stay now thine hand."
The pathway may seem rough and steep,
You'll feel His presence near,
You'll hear the precious Shepherd's voice,
"'Tis I, child, never fear."
Then trust His love—keep looking up,
On Jesus fix thy gaze;
The way He leads will give thee cause
For everlasting praise.
In glory we will give Him praise
For all the way He led;
Then we will understand His ways,
But here, we trust instead.
"And we know that ALL THINGS WORK TOGETHER FOR GOOD TO THEM THAT LOVE GOD, to them who are the called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).

Sweet Is the Voice

"Let Me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice" (Song of Solomon 2:14).
"Sing praises to God, sing praises" (Psalm 47:6).
"I will praise the Name of God with a song, and will magnify Him with thanksgiving" (Psalm 69:30).
"By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His Name" (Hebrews 13:15).
"Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me" (Psalm 50:23).
Sing praise to the Savior, sing praises,
For sweet is thy voice to His ear,
A response from the lips of His people,
He greatly rejoices to hear.
Sing praise to our blessed Redeemer,
Sing praise to the Lamb who was slain—
For the work He accomplished at Calv'ry,
O praise Him again and again.
He is worthy of worship and honor,
He is worthy of homage and praise,
And His heart is rejoiced and made happy,
When songs of thanksgiving we raise.
Sing praise to the Savior, sing praises,
For sweet is thy voice to the Lord;
Every song that is pleasing to Jesus
In heaven will have its reward.
For marvelous goodness and mercy,
And love that's forever the same,
For His grace and such great loving kindness,
Sing praise to His glorious Name.
O worship, and praise, and adore Him,
In response to His marvelous love:
He is worthy of endless thanksgiving—
The highly exalted above.

Thou Lovest Me

"THOU LOVEST ME before the foundation of the world" (John 17:24).
"He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world" (Ephesians 1:4).
"Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love" (Jeremiah 31:3).
"Many waters cannot quench love" (Song of Solomon 8:7).
"I am my Beloved's, and His desire is toward me" (Song of Solomon 7:10).
Thou lovest me, in spite of all my failure,
Thou knowest all my weakness and my sin;
But Thou did'st die on Calv'ry to redeem me,
To cleanse and make me white as snow within.
Thine is a love, unsearchable, eternal,
And many waters cannot quench Thy love;
Such love as Thou dost bear the guilty sinner,
Caused Thee to leave Thy glorious throne above.
Thou lovest me, a wretched, failing creature,
Unworthy, but Thy worthiness I claim;
Thy robe of righteousness is my salvation,
I pin my faith on Thy most precious Name.
Thou lovest me before the world's foundation,
"Chosen in Him" before the moon and sun,
Eternal love has marked out all my pathway,
And will direct 'till life on earth is done.
Thou lovest me, and Thou art interceding,
And ever working all things for my good,
O help me Lord, to rest upon Thy promise,
Rejoicing in Thy ways, not understood.
Thou lovest me, Ah! marvel of all ages,
Such wondrous love! we'll never understand;
But we can thankfully with joy receive it,
Enjoying blessings from Thy blessed hand.
O may we rest upon Thy love more fully!
And trust Thee for the needs of every day,
Assured Thy goodness, and Thy lovingkindness,
With mercies will surround my path alway.
"As the Father hath loved Me, so have I loved you" (John 15:9).
"Herein is love, not that we loved God, BUT THAT HE LOVED US, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins" (1 John 4:10).
"But God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us, even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ" (Ephesians 2:4-5).
"We love Him, because He first loved us" (1 John 4:19).

Thou Remainest

"Thou remainest . . . Thou art the same, and Thy years shall not fail" (Hebrews 1:11-12).
"For I am the Lord, I change not" (Malachi 3:6).
"The Lord, He it is that doth go before thee; He will be with thee, He will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed" (Deuteronomy 31:8).
Two words of sweetest comfort
Which peace and rest assure,
Are "Thou remainest" ever
Thy Name shall e'er endure;
Though all around is changing
In this our present scene,
Forever "Thou remainest,"
And 'tis on Thee I lean.
Then what-so-e'er betide us
Thy years shall never fail,
Thy love and grace surround us,
When trials sore assail;
Unchanging, firm foundation
For every trusting heart,
And peace and joy abundant
Thy presence doth impart.
"The Lord doth go before thee,"
Fear not, nor be dismayed;
He will not fail nor leave thee—
Why should we be afraid?
Today, tomorrow, ever,
Eternally, the same,
He never will forsake thee—
O bless His worthy Name.
O keep our eyes, Lord Jesus,
On Thee, the spotless Lamb,
Thou all sufficient object,
Eternal great "I AM;"
Our Refuge when in trouble,
Our Comforter when tried,
The Rock of our salvation,
Our Shepherd, Guard, and Guide.
Forever "Thou remainest,"
Our Shepherd tried and true,
To safely lead Thy people
This desert journey through;
Thy goodness and Thy mercy
Shall follow all the way,
Thy grace is all sufficient
For every dawning day.
"I will trust, and not be afraid" (Isaiah 12:2).
"For this God is our God forever and ever: He will be our Guide, even unto death" (Psalm 48:14).
"COMFORT YE, COMFORT YE MY PEOPLE, saith your God" (Isaiah 40:1).
"Now our Lord Jesus Christ HIMSELF, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, COMFORT YOUR HEARTS" (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17).

Thyself

“I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you UNTO MYSELF” (Exodus 19:4).
"This people have I formed FOR MYSELF" (Isaiah 43:21).
"I will come again, and receive you UNTO MYSELF” (John 14:3).
Thyself, Thyself, Lord Jesus, 'tis Thee and only Thee
My soul desires for comfort, Thy blessed company.
When all around is changing, and all the world grows old,
Unto Thyself, Lord Jesus, may my heart ne'er grow cold.
Thy love hast sought and found us, be this our daily song,
Thou'st suffered to redeem us, to Thee we now belong,
O keep us blessed Savior, from straying from Thy side,
For we were dearly purchased, for us Thou once died.
Unto Thyself, Lord Jesus, O may we ever cleave,
For Thee, and Thy blest presence, all else content to leave;
Though many changes meet us, in this, the present scene,
Thou only art unchanging, and 'tis on Thee I lean.
In Thee, there's peace and comfort, in Thee there's joy and rest,
True happiness abiding, when leaning on Thy breast.
Thy love will ever keep us, my happy heart doth sing,
When living in Thy presence, beneath Thy sheltering wing.
O may we ever follow, the path Thy feet hast trod.
And find in Thee our pleasure, exceeding joy in God;
The world and all its pleasures, can never satisfy,
There's peace alone in Jesus, known only to faith's eye.
To Thee, O blessed Savior, may my heart ever cling,
And sing Thy praises ever, my Savior, Lord, and King,
'Till with Thyself in glory, my ransomed soul shall be,
To worship and adore Thee, for all eternity.
“All my springs are in Thee" (Psalm 87:7).
"Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy" (Psalm 43:4).

Together With Them

“For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up TOGETHER WITH THEM in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air; and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words" (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18). Read 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.
For loved ones who have gone before,
Who now in Jesus sleep;
As others, e'en, who have no hope,
O sorrow not, nor weep.
When Jesus comes to call His own
To meet Him in the air;
The dear ones who in Jesus sleep
Will God bring with Him there.
“Together with them" in the clouds
We'll meet our blessed Lord,
And dwell with Him forevermore,
According to His Word.
To be forever with the Lord—
What comfort this doth bring!
“O grave where is thy victory?”
“O death where is thy sting?”
“Let not your heart be troubled, then,”
We hear the Savior say,
“I will prepare a place for you,
And come again some day.”
Together in the Father's house
In mansions bright and fair,
We'll dwell with Him forevermore
And all His glory share.
“Let not your heart be troubled" (John 14:1).
“For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him" (1 Thessalonians 4:14).
“Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Corinthians 15:57).

Trust, Delight, Commit and Rest

"Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass ... .Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass" (Psalm 37:3-5, 7).
To trust, delight, commit, and rest,
What comfort this would bring!
If we would only practice this,
And trust in everything!
It is our Father's purpose that
Our hearts have peace, and rest;
His wisdom chooses for us
What is always wise and best.
He asks us just to trust in Him,
Be happy, and rejoice!
To evermore delight in Him,
This is the Shepherd's voice.
He wants us to commit to Him
Our pathway, day by day,
To let Him take the hand and lead,
And to direct our way.
He asks us then to rest in Him,
Yes, this is His delight!
To have our hearts at peace and rest,
And happy in His sight.
"Let not your heart be troubled." then,
And "fret not," neither fear;
He wants us undisturbed and calm,
For He is ever near.
To trust, delight, commit, and rest,
Were this our daily prayer
'Twould yield the precious fruit of peace
And freedom from all care.
'Twould keep our hearts rejoicing,
With a mind at peace and rest,
And happy in our Father's love,
Whose ways are right and best.
"Whoso trusteth in the Lord, HAPPY IS HE" (Proverbs 16:20).
"Trust in Him AT ALL TIMES" (Psalm 62:8).
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee" (Isaiah 26:3).
"He knoweth them that trust in Him" (Nahum 1:7).

The Voice of My Beloved

"The voice of my Beloved!" (Song of Solomon 2:8).
"My Beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away" (Song of Solomon 2:10).
"What is thy beloved more than another beloved?" (Song of Solomon 5:9).
"My Beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest among ten thousand ... .Yea, He is altogether lovely. This is my Beloved, and this is my Friend" (Song of Solomon 5:10, 16).
"My Beloved is mine, and I am His: He feedeth among the lilies" (Song of Solomon 2:16).
"He calleth His own sheep by name, and leadeth them out ... .The sheep follow Him: for they know His voice ... They know not the voice of strangers" (John 10:3-5).
The voice of my Beloved spake,
"Rise up—and come away"—
His voice, with gentleness and love
Entreated me one day.
And "What is thy beloved?" you ask,
Who is He makes this call?
Why, He's the One who made the worlds.
His hand sustaineth all.
Creator of the universe,
The earth, the sky, the sea,
But He is my Redeemer too,
He tasted death for me.
For when He saw us far from God,
He left the throne above,
And came into this world of sin
To show the Father's love.
He bore our sins on Calv'ry's cross,
That we might dwell above;
Creation glory shows His power,
Redemption tells His love.
Oh! this is my Beloved, then,
The Man who died for me,
The altogether lovely One,
Chief of ten thousand, He.
He asks that we remember Him,
Oh! who would not respond?
With love to Him, who first loved us,
And with His own be found.
To sing His praises, bless His Name,
To worship and adore,
To thankfully remember Him,
And praise Him evermore.
"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him and will sup with him, and he with Me" (Revelation 3:20).
"If a man love Me, He will keep My words: and My Father will love him, and We will come unto him, and make our abode with him" (John 14:23).
"Truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ" (1 John 1:3).

Watch With Me

“Tarry ye here, and watch with Me" (Matthew 26:38).
"Then all the disciples forsook Him, and fled" (Matthew 26:56).
“Will ye also go away?” (John 6:67).
In His last hour of anguish in the garden
O'er-shadowed by the cross of Calvary,
To Peter, James, and John, these words were spoken,
Just tarry here a while, and "Watch with Me."
Just "Watch with Me," He asked them in the garden,
But His disciples little understood
The meaning of His untold pain and anguish,
When Jesus sweat, we read, great drops of blood.
His heart was crushed by all that was before Him,
His soul was bowed in agony and pain;
Yet those He loved—asleep! amidst His suffering,
His "Watch with Me" was spoken but in vain.
Asleep! unmindful of the pending danger,
They little realized what was ahead,
They slumbered—and then shunned Him as a stranger,
And all forsook Him—from His side they fled.
Just "Watch with Me," How touching and how human—
His heart desired communion with His own,
And though they failed to comfort thus their Master,
What mercy, and what grace to them was shown!
For from His child, He does not ask perfection,
He knows the frame, and knows the flesh is weak,
And in His grace, He pardons all their failure,
In love, He still their fellowship doth seek.
For e'en midst weakness, failure, dullness, slumber,
Their willing spirit, and their love He sees,
Though quenched, and stifled, by man's jeers and hatred—
It still was their desire their Lord to please.
Another last request our Lord has spoken,
"Remember Me until I come again,"
His love desires communion with His children,
Does this request speak to your heart in vain?
In these last days of ruin and declension,
When coldness and indifference abound,
It must be pleasing to our blessed Savior
If just a few to watch with Him are found.
If "two or three," amidst this scene of ruin,
In worship gather round our blessed Lord,
To sing His praises, and exalt the Savior,
Remembering Him, according to His Word;
And if, through weakness of the flesh, we falter,
And fail in many ways to honor Him;
Still He beholds the love and willing spirit,
And understands, though testimony's dim.
A little while, just watch a little longer,
And wait for Him to take thee to His Home;
O Savior, may our faith be growing stronger,
And may we watch for Thee till Thou shalt come.
“For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do show the Lord's death TILL HE COME” (1 Corinthians 11:26).

The Waves or the Lord

"The ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with the waves: for the wind was contrary . . . Jesus went unto them . . . Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I, be not afraid. Peter . . . walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth His hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?" (Matthew 14:24-31).
Are your eyes on the waves, or the Lord
When trial or testing you meet?
For if on the Lord, there is strength,
But if on the waves, it's defeat.
The waves may be boisterous and high,
But Jesus, thy Shepherd, is near,
He's ready to answer your cry,
And comforts with "Be of good cheer."
His love is forever the same,
Who laid down His life for the sheep;
There's power in the touch of His hand,
He's willing and able to keep.
The circumstance through which you pass,
The trial of faith may be hard,
Beset oft with doubtings and fear —
Look not at the waves, but the Lord.
The winds and the waves He controls,
Then trust Him, and be not dismayed,
He taketh His child by the hand,
Encourages, "Be not afraid."
May we, in the pathway of life,
When trial and testing arise,
Look not at the waves, but the Lord,
Who watcheth His own from the skies.
And when we His beauty behold,
The fears and the doubtings must cease;
His mercy, His love, and His power,
His presence bring wonderful peace.
Lord, increase our measure of faith,
Enlarge to a greater degree,
May we with a confident trust,
Look not at the waves, but to Thee.
"God is faithful, Who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
"The Lord said ... I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not" (Luke 22:32).
"Lord, increase our faith" (Luke 17:5).

We Rest on Thee

"And Asa cried unto the Lord his God, and said, Lord, it is nothing with Thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O Lord our God; for WE REST ON THEE" (2 Chronicles 14:11).
"And Jehoshaphat ... said, O Lord God of our fathers, art not Thou God in heaven?...we have no might ... neither know we what to do: but OUR EYES ARE UPON THEE" (2 Chronicles 20:5-6, 12).
We rest on Thee, Thou all sufficient Savior,
The Shepherd, and the Bishop of our souls;
We rest on Thee, the One who changes never,
On Thee, till the eternal ages roll.
We look to Thee, Thou true and loving Shepherd,
Our Counsellor and Guide along the way;
While travelling along life's pilgrim journey,
Our eyes are on Thee, Lord, from day to day.
We rest on Thee, Thou stable, firm foundation,
Eternally secure in Thy strong arms,
We look to Thee, to keep us, Savior, ever,
And shield us from temptation, and from harm.
We look to Thee, in trial and affliction,
Thine eye is ever on us from above;
To Thee we look, with every rising problem,
And trust them to Thy wisdom, and Thy love.
To rest on Him gives peace which passeth knowledge,
Gives quietness and comfort, joy and rest,
For He has promised He will bear our sorrows,
His love can soothe and calm the troubled breast.
We rest on Thee, for all the changing future,
For Thou alone can lead the way aright;
We look to Thee, for every step before us,
And trust Thy love to guide us through the night.
Oh what a solace there is found in Jesus!
To simply keep our eyes on Him and rest;
Committing every circumstance unto Him,
Then leaning on His strong, and loving breast.
There's rich reward in looking unto Jesus,
Acknowledging His guidance all the way:
Oh! keep us with our eyes so fixed upon Thee,
And lead us that we never go astray.
"Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2).
"In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths" (Proverbs 3:6).

Where Are the Nine?

"And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice, glorified God ... And Jesus answering said, "Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?" (Luke 17:11-17; 22:19-20).
When Christ, the Son of God, came down
Upon this earth to dwell,
He went about and did folks good,—
He healed and made them well.
As to Jerusalem He went,
It came to pass one day,
That in a certain town He met
Ten lepers on the way.
"O Jesus, Master, mercy have,"
With voices loud they cried;
And none who come to Jesus thus
Will ever be denied.
"It came to pass that they were cleansed,"
For Jesus heard their call
And had compassion on their plight—
He spoke and healed them all.
We'd think all ten would shout His praise,
But Scripture says just one
Turned back to render thanks to God
For all that He had done.
And Jesus asked, "Where are the nine?"
It must have grieved his heart
That they should so ungrateful be
And carelessly depart.
"Where are the nine?" How sad the words!
What pathos in His voice!
They came not back to praise the Lord
And make His heart rejoice.
And yet our blessed Master,
In His loving gracious way,
Would not a word of censure
Nor of criticism say.
But later on, the Word records,
Our Lord was crucified—
For sinners just like you and me
Our blessed Savior died.
His Word infallible declares
We're lepers vile within
A righteous, holy God requires
A sacrifice for sin.
But Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God,
For sinners had such love,
He said, "I will lay down My life
To bear them safe above."
It cost the Father all He had—
He gave His only Son
And Jesus paid our penalty—
The work has all been done.
And how much more He's done for us
Than for those lepers ten!
He shed His blood and gave His life
That we might live again.
Have we turned back to give Him thanks
And satisfy His heart,
Or must He class us with the nine
Who carelessly depart?
On that last night He spent on earth
He gave unto His own
Those precious emblems of His death,
In which such love was shown.
He took the loaf and broke it—
The cup He gave them then
And said, "This do, remember Me"
Until I come again.
Do we comply with this request
And gather round that One,
Unto the Father giving thanks,
And praises to the Son?
O precious Savior, with Thyself
So fill each mind and heart
That we shall e'er remember Thee,
And ne'er from Thee depart.
Till this same Jesus comes again
May we the "little while"
Just thankfully remember Him
And win the Father's smile.
And may we ever grateful be
For all His love divine,
And not be classed with those of whom
He said, "Where are the nine?"
"Whoso offereth praise glorifieth Me" (Psalm 50:23).
"Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men!" (Psalm 107:8, 15, 21, 31).

Where Wilt Thou That We Prepare?

"Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed. And He sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare us the passover, that we may eat. And they said unto Him, WHERE WILT THOU THAT WE PREPARE?" (Luke 22:7-9). Read Luke 22:7-20.
"There shall be a place WHICH THE Lord YOUR GOD SHALL CHOOSE to cause His Name to dwell there" (Deuteronomy 12:11).
"Take heed to thyself that Thou offer not thy burnt offerings in every place thou seest: BUT IN THE PLACE WHICH THE Lord SHALL CHOOSE" (Deuteronomy 12:13-14).
God has given so minutely clear instructions for the path,
Where the Lord of Glory deigns to meet His own;
If we earnestly beseech Him, and will follow where He leads,
We will find the place, so clearly He makes known.
And to all who ask "Where wilt Thou that we prepare" the feast?
He will guide them by His Spirit and His Word,
For it is the Lord of glory, who would gather round Himself,
Every soul who truly owneth Him as Lord.
And the place of His appointment, is of His desire and mind,
'Tis a place that He the Lord our God shall choose,
And He earnestly desireth, there to meet with all His own,
That the blessing that it brings they might not lose.
To be gathered with Himself alone, in His appointed place,
Where the Holy Spirit leads the song of praise,
Brings a blessing as we worship, and remember Him in death,
As our grateful songs of thanks to Him we raise.
Yes, there is a place of blessing, where Christ is in the midst,
It is far off from the systems formed by man:
It is with our blessed Savior, just gathered to His Name,
Where the Spirit leads, according to God's plan.
Oh! beloved, let me ask you, will you not on bended knee,
Ask the Lord "Where wilt Thou" we remember Thee?
For 'tis only He can show you, where Christ is in the midst,
Only if we follow Him, His place we'll see.
In this day of much confusion, when puzzled and perplexed,
If we look to Christ, who's evermore the same,
Our Great All Gracious Shepherd, would gather every lamb,
He would gather them in His most blessed Name.

Worship Thou Him

"Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline: thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father's house; So shall the King greatly desire thy beauty; for He is thy Lord; and worship thou Him" (Psalm 45:10-11).
My Lord has called me "Daughter;"
'Tis wondrous grace, I know,
That He who dwells in Heaven
Takes note of me below.
He asked me first to "Hearken"—
To just incline mine ear;
He had a precious secret
He wanted me to hear.
He told me to "Consider"—
His love to ponder o'er,
And all His grace and goodness—
Which makes me love Him more.
He asked me then to "Worship"—
My Savior, Lord—the King—
And said He was desirous
That homage I should bring.
To worship Thee? "But Lord,
I'm vile as vile can be."
He answered me, "My daughter,
I see no spot in thee."
"Thou'rt trusting in the Savior
Whose blood was shed for thee;
That finished work on Calv'ry
Forever sets thee free."
"And now I see thee standing
In Christ the Lamb once slain;
Partaker of His righteousness
And cleansed from every stain."
"Yes, Lord, I see it clearly,
'Tis through Thy blood alone
I can approach and worship
For all that Thou hast done.
Thy boundless love constrains me;
"Rememb'ring Thee," 'tis meet
To bring my feeble praises,
And worship at Thy feet."
And so my heart is peaceful
I'm sure such matchless love
Will bear me safely onward
And Home to Him above.
"But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him" (John 4:23).
