On the Death of His Daughter

Found in his hymn book.
“The Child, it Sleeps.
Though the wounded heart may hear thee,
For its guide till Jesus come;
By the royal love I hear thee,
Glad I am that thou’rt got home.
“Child of mine” I will not call thee.
“Child of God,” and this alone;
Sorrow now shall ne’er befall thee.
With the Lord upon His throne
Quivering tears I feel in sadness
Man of Sorrow, by Thy name,
I would bear it all in meekness
Seeing Thou didst bear the same
Beloved Lord, to claim Thy treasure
And to prove that it was Thine,
This the Father’s own good pleasure,
And through grace, it shall be mine.
