My Bodyguard

Do you know what a bodyguard is? A bodyguard is a man whose duty is to protect a person from bodily harm. Presidents, prime ministers, kings and queens and other rulers have bodyguards, and most of them have more than one. Usually only important people have them, but I had a bodyguard once even though I’m not very important! There was a man in the area where we live who was threatening harm, so I was told not to leave the house without a bodyguard until the police were able to find and arrest the man.
I want to tell you some things I learned about bodyguards. But first, did you know that you can have a bodyguard? That’s because Someone thinks you are very important and special - God. And God has provided Jesus to be your Saviour. If you will accept Him as your Saviour, He will also be your Bodyguard!
My bodyguard, Mr. K, was well qualified to be a bodyguard. He had been a policeman for many years. He was now retired from the police force, but he still knew how to protect people and how to watch out for trouble. Did you know that Jesus is even better qualified to be your Bodyguard? He knows what is going to happen in the future; plus, He loves you and wants to take care of you. And Jesus is also all-powerful, so that He has many ways to take care of you.
The day I had my bodyguard, I never even looked over my shoulder for Mr. K, because I knew he was right behind me. That’s what a bodyguard does. And when Jesus is our Lord and Saviour, we don’t have to wonder if He’s with us, because Jesus promises, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:55Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. (Hebrews 13:5)).
I wasn’t sure what was going to happen that day. In fact, I knew that there could very well be some difficulty or trouble up ahead. But I wasn’t worried, because I was sure Mr. K could handle the difficulty for me. I could simply go about my business and enjoy the nice day. If Jesus is our Saviour, we don’t need to worry about what might happen today or in the future. We can be sure that Jesus will take care of us in every situation. “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you” (1 Peter 5:77Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (1 Peter 5:7)). Nothing can happen in our lives that is too difficult for Jesus!
Afterwards, I learned that not only had Mr. K been busy following me and watching out for me, but he was also getting information to help protect me. The Lord Jesus has promised to provide us with all necessary wisdom for our lives.
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God  .  .  .  and it shall be given him” (James 1:55If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. (James 1:5)). God has given us His Word, the Bible. If you read it carefully and prayerfully, you will find all the answers you need.
Some of the time Mr. K followed me, but some of the time Mr. K went ahead of me, making sure that all was safe. And Jesus does just that and even more for us. He knows what is ahead for us -He even plans our way for us. In Psalm 139, we find out how precious we are to the Lord and how much He thinks of us. “Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid Thine hand upon me.  .  .  .  Thy hand [shall] lead me, and Thy right hand shall hold me.  .  .  .  How precious also are Thy thoughts unto me. .   .   . If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand.”
As it turned out, there wasn’t any trouble or problem the day that I had my bodyguard. Later we heard that the police found the man who was causing trouble for some of us, and he had been taken to jail. So I only needed my bodyguard for one day, but I am very thankful that Jesus will be my Bodyguard for my entire life! “This God is our God forever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death” (Psalm 48:1414For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death. (Psalm 48:14)).
Jesus is the only bodyguard who can give true safety and real security. If He is your Bodyguard, you can trust Him with your life and enjoy the peace that He gives. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he [trusts] in Thee” (Isaiah 26:33Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. (Isaiah 26:3)).
