Boyd’s Bible Dictionary:

(riches). A Chaldee word used by Christ (Matt. 6:24²⁴No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew 6:24); Luke 16:9⁹And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. (Luke 16:9)).

Concise Bible Dictionary:

An Aramaic word signifying “riches.” It is personified as a “master” in Matthew 6:24²⁴No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew 6:24) and Luke 16:13: “Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” In Luke 16:9, 11⁹And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations. (Luke 16:9)
