Ruthie is going to bed by candlelight. This is something different to what she is used to, but Daddy’s cabin doesn’t have electricity. Christian boys and girls are said to “shine as lights in the world; holding forth the word of life.” Phil. 2:15,1615That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; 16Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither labored in vain. (Philippians 2:15‑16).
JESUS bids us shine
With a clear, pure light,
Like a little candle
Burning in the night;
In this world of darkness
So we must shine,
You in your small corner,
And I in mine.
Jesus bids us shine
First of all for Him;
Well He sees and knows it
If our light grows dim;
He looks down from heaven
To see us shine,
You in your small corner,
And I in mine.
