Joshua as a Type of Christ

Joshua is Christ as leading by the Spirit, which we have elsewhere seen, and thus he seeks victory; he will attack and overcome. Even supposing Amalek sought to slay the weak ones (Deut. 25:17-1817Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way, when ye were come forth out of Egypt; 18How he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, even all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God. (Deuteronomy 25:17‑18)), this does not alter his character, but only gave the occasion to the exercise of the energy of the Spirit. We have already seen Israel in conflict with Amalek in Exodus 17.
