Is Homosexuality Sin?

"And the people of Sodom were wicked, and great sinners before Jehovah." Gen. 13:13.
"Before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, from the youngest to the oldest—all the people from every quarter. And they called to Lot, and said to him, Where are the men that have come in to thee to-night? bring them out to us that we may know them. And Lot went out to them to the entrance, and shut the door after him, and said, I pray you, my brethren, do not wickedly!" Gen. 19:4-7.
"And thou shalt not lie with mankind as one lieth with a woman: it is an abomination." Lev. 18:22.
"For this reason God gave them up to vile lusts; for both their females changed the natural use into that contrary to nature; and in like manner the males also, leaving the natural use of the female, were inflamed in their lust towards one another; males with males working shame, and receiving in themselves the recompense of their error which was fit....who knowing the righteous judgment of God, that they who do such things are worthy of death, not only practice them, but have fellow delight in those who do [them]." Rom. 1:32, 26-27.
"Do ye not know that unrighteous [persons] shall not inherit [the] kingdom of God? Do not err: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor those who make women of themselves, nor who abuse themselves with men, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor abusive persons, nor [the] rapacious, shall inherit [the] kingdom of God. And these things were some of you; but ye have been washed, but ye have been sanctified, but ye have been justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God." 1 Cor. 6:9,10,11. Quotations are from J.N. Darby's translation.
It is not necessary, we believe, to add very much by way of comment to the clear testimony of the above Scriptures. In an earlier day, when even the christianized world accepted God's word, at least outwardly, on this subject, it might not have been necessary even to call special attention to these Scriptures. Today, however, the world and the professing Church, have joined hands to call darkness light, and to cast off the moral restraints imposed by God in His word.
Much has been made of the idea that, for some individuals, practice of homosexual "love" is normal, either because of genetic aberrations or because of early conditioning. Pleas have been made for acceptance of such individuals in the church, and in society, allowing them freedom of choice in their sexual relationships.
Now, even if it is true that there are some individuals in this fallen race who are born with such tendencies, just as there are people born with other physical and mental abnormalities, while such individuals certainly should be treated with compassion and understanding, we must recognize that indulgence of such tendencies in either thought (see Matt. 5:28 for the principle) or practice is an abomination to our Holy God, as made plain in the Scriptures cited above.
A solemn consideration, in the case of those who may have developed such tendencies because of early conditioning, is that this is often connected with the assumption by the mother of an unscriptural role in the home, and the abdication by the father of his God-given place as head. May the Lord exercise us who are parents about this!
Just as God can, and does, save and deliver, wash and sanctify prostitutes, fornicators, thieves, covetous and abusive persons, and drunkards, all of whom may have tendencies toward such behavior, so He can, and does, wash and sanctify the believing homosexual. He will give him or her a new nature to see things as God sees them, and give the Holy Spirit as the power of the new life to enable him to walk to His honor and glory in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation.
As long as we are in the body, wicked tendencies of all sorts may be present, but we are to judge such tendencies and, says Paul, "walk in Spirit and ye will not fulfill flesh's lust." Gal. 5:16.
