Concise Bible Dictionary:

City in the extreme south of Judah, allotted to Simeon (Josh. 19:5⁵And Ziklag, and Beth-marcaboth, and Hazar-susah, (Joshua 19:5); 1 Chron. 4:31³¹And at Beth-marcaboth, and Hazar-susim, and at Beth-birei, and at Shaaraim. These were their cities unto the reign of David. (1 Chronicles 4:31)). The names signify “village of horses,” and it may have been a depot for horses from Egypt.
