One of the sons of Joktan, a descendant of Shem (Gen. 10:2626And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah, (Genesis 10:26); 1 Chron. 1:2020And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah, (1 Chronicles 1:20)). The name is supposed to have been preserved by the settlement of the tribe in Hadramaut, in the far south of Arabia, about 16° 10' N, 50° E.
