The gifts [in Eph. 4] are, properly, that which is called ministry. Every gift is a ministry, for as there are diversities of gifts, yet but one Spirit, so there are diverse ministries, but one Lord. By the possession of a gift I become the servant of Christ, from whom I hold the gift by the Spirit, and whom the Spirit reveals as Lord.
