Fragment: Serving Begins With Little Things

The history of a bird is the history of a believer. First it is in the nest, served by parents. Then when fledged, it is learning to do for others what has been done for oneself first served, and then, in the power and enjoyment of it, serving. It is not a question of duty to serve; that is the calling of each. You will find out your service if you simply occupy yourself with whatever comes to your hand, for the Lord.
There is a serving of one’s time but you will not be entrusted with very great works until you have proved your competency in small ones (Luke 16:1010He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. (Luke 16:10)). The star must shine, and if your eye is single, your whole body will be full of light (Matt. 6:2222The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. (Matthew 6:22)).
