Of all the stories in the Bible only one surpasses the story of Joseph. It is the story of One pictured in it—the greater than Joseph—our Lord Jesus Christ.
The story as told by Moses is the delight of the young and the wonder of all who read it. The evangelist finds in it abundant material in seeking to make Christ known to the unsaved. The teacher revels in the delightful pictorial presentation of "the things concerning Himself" and the striking illustrations of so many New Testament truths. The young believer is fascinated as the story moves on to its glorious climax. The matured Christian never ceases to wonder at the mysteries of redemptive love and grace pictured in the life of this beloved Son of Jacob.
As the lofty mountain is mirrored in the humble lake that nestles amid the valleys below, so the life of our beloved Lord is pictured in that of Joseph, loved by his father, hated by his brethren, and exalted among the Gentiles.
Mr. Hamilton Smith has undertaken the delightful task of tracing in the life of Joseph "bright unfoldings of the glories of the excellencies of Christ." Ever since these articles first appeared in Scripture Truth and later in Words of Love, a desire has been expressed for their publication in a more permanent form. We trust that these precious studies will, in their present form kindle in the hearts of the readers a flame of affection for Him who truly is the Revealer of Secrets and the Savior of the World.
