“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” Proverbs 14:1212There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Proverbs 14:12)
Many of you boys and girls may have learned the Bible verse in Sunday school that says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” (John 14:66Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)). What did Jesus mean when He said, “I am the way”? Here is a little story to help you understand what He meant.
A missionary told how a local guide was leading him through the African jungle. He asked the guide, “Is this the way?”
The guide answered, “No. I am the way  .  .  .  follow me.”
The guide knew that the missionary would become hopelessly lost without his guiding presence leading all the way through the dense jungle to the end of the journey.
And this is just the way it is with you and me. We could never find our way to God without the Lord Jesus. When Jesus said, “I am the way,” He saw that we were lost and far from God. Not only did we need a Guide, but we also needed a Saviour. Jesus hung on the cross to take our place and bear “our sins in His own body on the tree” (1 Peter 2:24). Now all who believe in Him and accept Him as Lord and Saviour will one day arrive safely in heaven at the end of the journey. But until then, as we live day by day, He has promised that the Holy Spirit will live within us and guide us safely until we reach our home in heaven.
Before Jesus was crucified, He told His followers, “I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:2323Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. (John 14:23)). He is living in heaven right now, and that is the end of the journey for all who know the Lord Jesus as their Saviour and Guide.
Will heaven be the end of your journey?
