El-beth-el

Name given by Jacob to the place of the altar which he built at Beth-el to God who appeared to him when he fled from Esau. Beth-el signifies “House of God,” and on his return to that place he received the revelation of God’s name, Almighty (compare Gen. 32:2929And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. (Genesis 32:29)), and worshipped the “God of Beth-el, “because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother” (Gen. 35:77And he built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother. (Genesis 35:7)).
