Earthly Pleasures Fade Away

Listen from:
WRITTEN and sung by a popular singer, when held to complete her engagement after her conversion. It is said, her dressmaker was the means of her conversion, and they prayed together for guidance from the Lord for what she ought to do on this occasion.
The worldly mind the world pursues:
What are its charms to me?
Once I admired those trifles too,
But grace has set me free.
Those pleasures now no longer please,
No more content afford.
Far from my heart be joys like these,—
Now I have known the Lord.
As by the light of opening day,
The stars are all concealed:
So earthly pleasures fade away
When Jesus is revealed.
Creatures no more divide my choice,
I bid them all depart;
His name, His love, His gracious voice,
Has fixed my roving heart.
Now, Lord, I would be Thine alone,
And wholly live to Thee;
If I may hope that Thou wilt own
A worthless worm like me.
Yet, though of sinners e’en the worst,
I cannot doubt Thy will;
For if Thou hadst not loved me first,
I had refused Thee still.
