Various words are translated “net,” some signifying large nets, and others the drag net. Symbolically nets represent devices secretly laid or they would be shunned, even as a bird avoids a net spread in its sight (Prov. 1:1717Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird. (Proverbs 1:17)). The kingdom of heaven is compared to a net cast into the sea, which gathers good and bad; “the wicked” will be sorted from “the just” at the end of the age (Matt. 13:47-4947Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 48Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. 49So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, (Matthew 13:47‑49)).
