24That which is bruised or crushed or broken or cut shall ye not present to Jehovah; neither in your land shall ye do (so).
25And from a stranger's hand shall ye not offer the bread of your God from any of these; because their corruption [is] in them; a blemish [is] in them: they shall not be accepted for you.
26And Jehovah spake to Moses, saying,
27An ox, or a sheep, or a goat, when it is brought forth, shall be seven days under its dam; and from the eighth day and thenceforth it shall be accepted as a fire offering to Jehovah.
28A cow or sheep—it and its young—shall ye not slaughter in one day.
29And when ye sacrifice a sacrifice of thanksgiving to Jehovah, ye shall sacrifice for your acceptance.
30On that day shall it be eaten; ye shall leave none of it until morning: I [am] Jehovah.
31And ye shall observe my commandments and do them: I [am] Jehovah.
32And ye shall not profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I [am] Jehovah that hallow you,
33that brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I [am] Jehovah.

 If reason, or self-will were permitted to speak, it might say, “Why must we all go to this one place? Can we not have an altar at home? Or, at least, an altar in each principal town, or in the center of each tribe?” The conclusive answer is, “God has commanded otherwise; this is enough for every true Israelite. Even though we may not be able, by reason of our ignorance, to see the why or the wherefore, simple obedience is our obvious and bounden duty. (Deuteronomy 12 by C.H. Mackintosh)
 No doubt, if the heart were cold and careless toward God, it would matter little about the place of worship; all places would be alike. But we may set it down as a fixed principle that every loyal loving heart from Dan to Beersheba would rejoice to flock to the place where Jehovah had recorded His Name, and where He had appointed to meet His people. “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go unto the house of the Lord. Our feet shall stand within thy gates, O Jerusalem [God’s center for Israel]....” (Psa. 122). (Deuteronomy 12 by C.H. Mackintosh)
