V.1 After all God has been doing for these people, they go backward once more, and do evil in the sight of the Lord. So God allows the Philistines to overcome the Israelites. When we believers want our own way, God sometimes has to allow troubles in our life to get us to stop and listen to Him.
V.2-25 We can learn a great deal from this story, if we pay careful attention. Notice how much more this wife understands God than the husband does. Understanding God is the result of obedience to what we already know of His Word. To those who obey, His Word is plain and right (Prov. 8:8-98All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. 9They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. (Proverbs 8:8‑9)). Israel was sinking down lower and lower, forgetting God. When we see how much failure there was in Samson’s life, we will understand how poor a condition before God, the people were in. Remember this as you read the next few chapters. Otherwise you will wonder why God would have such a mixture of good and bad in one man.
