V.1-6 Joseph submissively adjusts to the life of a slave. We do not read of one complaint (Luke 2:49-52⁴⁹And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business? ⁵⁰And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them. ⁵¹And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart. ⁵²And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man. (Luke 2:49‑52)).

V.2 What an interruption and a secret to understand. The Lord was with him in his prosperity. We will see another remarkable statement later in this chapter.

V.7-20 Tempted, not just one day, but many (Heb. 4:15¹⁵For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. (Hebrews 4:15)). Good circumstances are the cause of Satan’s subtle attacks on us sometimes.

V.9 All sin is against God. He didn’t say “we” but “I”. He was in a very much more responsible position than she was. She did not know the Lord.

V.21-23 What a sweet follow-up to the beginning of verse 2. Here in adversity, in prison now, there is this blessed assurance, “but the Lord was with Joseph” — in prosperity, and in prison.

V.23 The Lord was behind all the events. We too can rest on the promise in Philippians 1:6⁶Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: (Philippians 1:6).
