V.1-8 What a warning to watch our talk and our actions! God is listening and watching! Matthew 14:7-10⁷Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask. ⁸And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger. ⁹And the king was sorry: nevertheless for the oath's sake, and them which sat with him at meat, he commanded it to be given her. ¹⁰And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. (Matthew 14:7‑10) is an example of the first part of verse 6).

V.9-17 The apostle Paul makes use of this teaching in 1 Timothy 6:7-10. But Paul had the truth of God to give the happy side of the subject, while Solomon only gives us the sad side, as seen from men’s viewpoint.

V.18-20 It is not a sin to be rich in this world’s goods, but those goods will not really satisfy the heart. It is the desire to be rich (See 1 Tim. 6:9-10) which brings sadness and frustration in life.
